Within the last two years, the old records have been moved from the courthouse to the 3rd floor of the library. The records are seperated from the geneology records and the hours are different from the library's. If I remember right the old records room is only open Monday thru Friday, 8am - 4pm. I remember it's only Monday thru Friday but I am not sure about the time. It kinda made me think the old records room is open the same time the current records are at the courthouse. I was just there last week. The room is fantastic and two very nice ladies work there. Copies are 25 cents. The photocopier copies in regular and legal size paper. The copies that I made turned out great. There are a large variety of old records covering a lengthy time frame. I found a guardianship court case from the 1950's there. I only researched court cases and marriages but there were alot more index books. I would suggest researching there first before trying at the courthouse. Parking at the library is much easier than at (or anywhere near) the courthouse. Just a thought. Joetta Roberts, Griggs, Blakely, York, Pruitt (various spellings)
Sue, I wrote two times to the following and was successful in both. Both were before 1900. I wrote to: Frank Riddick Judge of Probate Madison County Courthouse 100 Northside Square Huntsville, Alabama 35801-4820 My ggrandparents were married in 1880 and they sent me a copy of the certificate promptly. Judy Curtis Jackson
Hello list. I hope someone can help me. Does anyone know where I should go to try and get a record for a marriage that occurred in 1892? My gg grandmother was born in Huntsville, AL. I don't know if she married there, but I would like to at least give it a try. I have been on a few web sites for Alabama, but they all seem to give me information on state records after 1900. Does anyone know where I should write for a marriage before 1900? Do I write to a courthouse in Madison county? Does anyone have an address? Has anyone done this and can perhaps shed a little light on it for me? Sue
In the census INDEX for 1870 Madison County is this listing for Sarah Jacobs. I do not have access to the actual census at the moment and wonder if there is anyone who can add anything as to who this Sarah Jacobs is, was married to, and who else might be listed in her household. Remember that the index/soundex did not list children under the age of (I think) age 14 in the index... Thank you in advance for any input and help. marta.. I am seeking information on the family of William K. McDougal ( and other spellings) who was in Madison Co. during the 1830 and 1870 census. In 1840, he was in Lincoln Co, TN and in 1850 and 1860 he was in Harding Co, TN. William was apparently born in SC about 1805 to 08 to Aaron John McDougal and Nancy Stinson. William married Mary Unknown about 1826 to 29 in Al but I have not found a record. Their children were: John K., A. A., Nancy Tilothy, William T., Richard H., James L., Mary J., Samuel M., George L., David, Squire Christopher C. William is one of my ancestors and I am just starting serious research on this line. I would be happy to share my total information and references. Wayne Beck Houston
I am looking for info on this line. Nancy Jane Wallace was born in TN. in 1861. She died 1933 in Madison Co. Her children were Lowe Wallace b. 1889 and died 1936 in Madison co. Next was Lottie, she was born 1895 in Madison Co. and died 1962 in Fl. but is buried in Madison Co. I would like to know who the children's father was. Family story has it as Bryson T. English but I have never been able to confirm this. Cyndy
