A few weeks ago I was very disturbed about the 1930 Jackson and Madison County, AL census, some the census being very bad. I will list the Districts in Jackson County on Film Number T626-21. Jackson County is on 2 films, the other one seems to be good. Good meaning it is very readable Fair meaning that some of the names are unreadable Bad meaning that A LOT of the names and the ages can't be read at all and the rest is almost unreadable. When it gets over to the other information, it is fair. I have viewed the Computer CD's and 2 of the regular library films and they are all the same. It is possible that the original film was bad in these areas. I bought mine from Heritage Quest, they replaced my films and they are the same as follows: Film Number T626-21 Districts: Dist. #31 Pct. 24 SECTION-good Dist. #32 Pct. 25 HARMONY-BAD can't read a lot of it Dist #33 Pct 26 GARTH-fair Dist #34 Pct. 27 HOLLYTREE-fair Dist. #35 Pct. 28 DUTTON-good Dist. #36 Pct. 29 GROSS SPRINGS-fair Dist. #37 Pct. 30 HAIGWOOD-fair Dist. #38 Pct. 31 HOLLY SPRING-good Dist. #39 Pct. 32 LIMROCK-fair; Dist. #40 Pct..33 HAMBRICK-BAD can't read a lot of it Dist. #41 Pct. 34 PRINCETON-BAD can't read a lot of it Dist, #42 Pct. 35 CROW-good Dist. #43 Pct. 36 ASPEL-good Dist. #44 Pct. 37 WINNIGER-fair Dist. #45 Pct. 38 ROSALIE-fair Dist. #46 Pct. 39 DEAN-good Hope this helps everyone. Thanks a million Jewel

That's something I need also. Marriages of Madison County, AL in that time period. Has anyone done a marriage book on Madison County? We have bought census and cemetery records, but no marriages. If anyone can help me, I would be most grateful. I recently received a piece of information from a kind woman and I would like to find out if this person is my ancestor. I am doing my research from Pennsylvania but my search for Oscar H BENJAMIN is in Huntsville, Al. In the 1870 census, Oscar listed himself as a Bar Keeper. After 1870 he and his family seem to disappear. This is what the kind woman sent me: HUNTSVILLE ADVOCATE October 17, 1877 One evening of same day, O.H. Benjamin, who was serving as night policeman also fell dead in beer saloon of Wm. Struve. Middle aged man of quiet, unobtrusive manners. Leaves wife and several children. Now this may or may not be the person I am looking for. I believe that I cannot sent for a death certificate in AL because it is prior to 1908. Has anyone here done research in Huntsville? Could you tell me where I might be able to find some other record of his death and perhaps get a full name? If anyone out there has any hints or suggestions or knows of some places I should look, please let me know. I appreciate any tips! Sue sue.thompson@ctdi.com

This certainly has been a quiet list. Thanks to those who shared off-line -- we now have this family back through 1900 and I'm off to Tennessee to continue the hunt. Best wishes for success in all your searches. Thanks to some help, we now have Oma's maiden name, and we're making progress on connecting her and her sons back to their Carpenter line. Do any of the list subscribers know of someone who might look up marriages and other records at the Madison Co. courthouse for the period 1890-1920? I would be willing to pay costs and a reasonable fee, or to do look-ups in return. Regards, Terry --- Terry Carpenter <diluvius@yahoo.com> wrote: > > Hello Madison Co. I'll appreciate someone looking up the Gay family on the 1850, 1860 or 1870 census. My g.grandma was Lucy Massey Gay. Not sure when she was born, but she married Steve (Steven) Gay & had my grandma, Margie Mae Gay, on Aug. 8, 1892. After Steve's death, Lucy, in her later years, married James Atkinson (?spelling). I've been told that Lucy had a brother, Joe Massey & it is believed that Joe Massey is buried somewhere in Bridgeport, Jackson Co., AL. Joe's wife was accused of poisoning Joe with a strawberry pie. Also, there was a John Will Gay who was some way related. Any clues will be appreciated as I'm really in the dark about g.grandma Lucy Massey Gay's family. Mary

Can someone look up a marriage of Columbus Boggs to Nancy. This had to be about 1863-1865. Thanks in Advance, Heather Pinckard
Beware of the 1930 Jackson and Madison County, AL census. Just received 2 computer disks on each county and they are very bad. Most is unreadable. T626-20 of Jackson County is good, but T626-21 include the pcts around Princeton and that area is unreadable. Hope you have better luck than I have. The Madison County census I received is 50% unreadable. Just thought I would let you know so you will not waste your money. If anyone has gotten a good 1930 census of these 2 counties, please let me know where you found it. Thanks a million Jewel
I need to find someone to do a little research in Madison and Franklin ctys. My Hancock's left Madison county in 1837 after having had seven of their eleven children born there. They came to Marshall County MS ( Tate county was later formed from the part that they came to). I have found a marriage record for them ( in Madison Cty but nothing else. They are: William A Hancock b: 1802 NC. Married: Sarah Ferguson. They were married in Madison Cty. Now for Franklin Cty: William Lucas b: 5/12/1778 Married : Mary Cassandra Scruggs 3/1/1804. In 1821 William Lucas was serving as a Senator in Franklin Cty. Dale
Jewel, I am not a descendant of Robert C. Hambrick, but my aunt was married to him. You and I corresponded in the past. Peggy Nerren Grisamore PEKIPAN@aol.com
Hello to the list, I am a newcomer here and thought I would post my research interests. I have info that my Cash family was involved in Madison Co. and am looking for family connections. I have the following deed abstract from Washington Co. TN: Washington Co. TN Deeds: 1797-1817 Vol. 2 Pg. 184-5/11/1812 BENJAMIN/ BENJAMINE CASH, Exec of JAMES CASH, Dec'd, Madison Co. of the Mississippi Territory TO SAMUEL BAYLES; 120? Acres on a branch of Little Limestone. CONS; $125L. FOR: Part of NC grant #778 to James Cash. ADJ: Isaack Hair, tract of land conveyed from James Cash to his son William; John Cash, EXC? : 1ΒΌ acres where the meeting house stands. SIG: Benjamin Cash. Wit: Ephraim Anderson, Wm Bayles, Isaac Sheneker. CT: ?? 1812. REG: 30 Sept. 1812. OK, Benjamin was a brother to my John Cash(listed above in deed). John Cash's son was James Ingo Cash b. 1801 Washington Co. TN d. 1885 Rhea Co. TN. He apparently "hired out to a kinsman" and married Ann KEY ca. 1820-1 in Huntsville, Madison Co. By 1823, he went to the Hiwassee purchase up in East TN(modern Roane/Meigs Co. border). That is where my family hailed from, but I am very interested in Madison Co. connections. I think there may be some more connections there and would very much appreciate hearing from anyone who connects or might have info on these relatives of mine. Thank you and God Bless. Sincerely, Christopher Cash
Would like to get in touch with any of Robert C. Hambrick's descendants. I lost a lot of my addresses when my computer crashed a while back and need to hear from them. Jewel casey
Is there anyone on the list who had worked with the 1866 Alabama Census? I recently tried to order the film for Madison County from Heritage Quest and they had all counties except for Madison County. Does anyone know if Madison County was on the State 1866 census and if not what might have happened to it? Also what information would be found on it?
