Looking for the parents of William and Tabitha. Did Tabitha have a sister named Ann M. that married Andrew Jackson WOODS and lived at Woods Mill in Madison Co. Ala. On the 1850 Madison Co Census Charles Ruby 21 was living in the household of Andrew Jackson Wood. 1830 Census Madison Co. Ala.had a listing for: John Ruby 1 M 5/10, 1M20/30 Coonrod Ruby 3M under 5, 1M 20/30, 1F20/30 William COBB m. Tabitha C.RUBY; Lic.12 Nov. 1855, Solemnized 15 Nov. 1855 by Wm. Green, Minister of the M. E. Church South; MB4-B, pg.132. Where is the M. E. Church South located? On the return for the marriage of John R. Craft & Mary Ann WOOD. Wm. Green listed his title as M.P.A.J.P. What does this mean? I was very suprised to learn that a Craft or Wood was married by a Methodist and not a Baptist Thanks for any help. Ernest Wood
Hayes, Thanks for this information. I've sent you some addresses of people who are researching Cannons and Coffmans. If anyone else is interested, he/she can email me privately. I am trying to locate the parents of two JONES sisters, Martha ("Patsy") and her sister Temperance. These Jones sisters married WALKER brothers in Madison County in 1817 and 1819. In later records in Arkansas and Texas, Temperance's middle name is shown as VINCENT. This is not a former married name, although she was married previously to a DAVIS. If anyone has a JONES family in Madison County that these sisters might possibly fit into, I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks! About 15 years ago, a cousin, John Lanier took us to Center Cemetery near New Hope. The back part of the cemetery was overgrown with small bushes. John said the grave of Lanier had "Ad" (or "Add) on a small stone for a marker. I wondered if anyone knows if the cemetery has been cleaned up in the back area and if the stone might still be visible? I would love to get a photo of it. His daughter-in-law, Milly Hanner wife of William D. Lanier is buried in the same cemetery. Milly is in an unmarked grave next to the Poor family. Would appreciate any help.

Hi Ernest, glad I could bring something to the surface for you. There are a large number of Hughes that are decended from WH Hughes and Edith Ann Glover. Most of them seem to still live in the Madison county area. Their names are on the "tree" that I posted. Bill Hughes Ft. Worth, Texas

RE: subject of marriage bonds..pledges or actual payments?? When did marriage "applications" come into usage? Does any one know when the marriage bonds in Alabama were began and when they ended the requirement (if they did). Often you will see the bond on the marriage license was stated to be a two hundred dollar "bond". I am of the understanding that this was really a "pledge" and not an actual payment.....unless there was a default in the marriage. What would constitute a "default of marriage" that would require this bond to have been paid? To whom would it have been paid? Who would have collected the bond? Would it go to the bride, the state or the county? Would it have only been collected in the event that the marriage was consummated and children resulted or in the event of the lack of consummation? Would it have been collected only if the marriage was not a valid marriage? Or only if it was a first marriage or one of the couple was a minor? Would it have been required if it were a second marriage (example after a divorce or death)?

Hi, My name is Jim Foley, I contributed to the book being put out on Madison Co., but failed to order a copy. How do I order this book and who do I make out the check to? Thanks, Jim Foley, 6730 Messick Rd. Memphis, TN 38119
Hi David, >From the research that I have done it looks as if the Hughes, Crafts, Moons, and Glovers were close in old Madison County and intermarried to the extent that anyone related to one family is probably somehow related to the others families. Bill Hughes ---
