Is anyone familiar with the Joseph and Martha J. (Dismukes) BOYCE family? Their daughter Susan J. BOYCE was b in Madison Co., AL in 1825 and married J. G. Woods in Lincoln Co., TN on 30 Nov 1843. In Dec 1847 a Robert Boyce m Rachel Holman in Lincoln Co., TN and I've been trying to figure out who these people were since I never found them again. Now I'm wondering if Robert Boyce was a brother of Susan Boyce. Many thanks for reading this. Linda HOLMAN Swansson [email protected]
RE: year of 1917 The year 1917 was a bad year for somethings in Huntsville. That was the year the first full time Health Officer position was established. Dr. Carl Grote began this job in January of 1918. Does anyone know what was in the first report given in 1918? Also almost 400 people died that year as a result of the Spanish Influenza outbreak that was occurring world wide.....How would a list of those people be found? Could it be put on the list? How many people have a brick wall that occurred during this period?
We are having difficulty tracing the parents of Joseph H. Giles (1845-1915). We would also appreciate any information to confirm and fill in details on the people listed below, ie middle names, exact dates and locations of birth/death/marriage. Joseph H. Giles was born in 1845, in either Alabama or Virginia, and died on 14 April 1915 in Ellis County, Texas. He married Lucinda J Petty in Madison County, Alabama on 19 December 1867. Lucinda J. Petty was born 27 January 1843, in Madison County, Alabama, and died 3 December 1892, in Ellis County, Texas. They had three children: Meredith Clarence Giles (M), born 29 April 1873, probably in Huntsville or New Market, and died 14 October 1952, in Italy, Ellis County, Texas. Daniel A. Giles (M), born 1871; died 1946, in Texas. Hannah Giles (F), born 5 March 1876 and died 2 January 1960, in Texas. We also think that Joseph H. Giles may have remarried on 5 January 1896 to Mrs. Mary Parker Manning, who was born in Arkansas in 1844 and died in 1926, probably in Avalon or Italy, Ellis County, Texas. At this point, our greatest need is the identity of Joseph's parents. He had a brother, James. We expected to find Joseph and James in the 1850 Census for Madison County, Alabama, but alas no sign of them. Thanks much, Ralph Giles Houston, TX (Grandson of Meredith)

Does anyone know if there is a list of all Doctors who lived in Madison County during the period of 1860-1870? Where would this be found? Who were they? What education and training would a doctor of that period have been required to have? Where would that training most likely have taken place? Thank you.

Hi Jim (and any other ALMADISON or Rootsweb onlookers): I didn't notice anyone responding to your query so I though I'd try to help even though it's been a couple of weeks since you asked. Here is the link to one of the "Alabama Heritage Books Project' pages that should help you find the information you seek. Most of the counties are in some state of distribution I understand but I havn't gotten anything back from Madison county either. http://www.bham.mindspring.com/~awillcut/heritage.htm Just in case you have some problem with that site, here is the address for the Madison County group; Madison County Heritage Book P. O. Box 662 Madison, AL 35758 I need to give them a call myself!. Perhaps I'll do that since it's a local call for me and post the response. I would guess they're just running behind. This sort of thing always seems to go slowly. Here are the contact persons and phone numbers; in case I don't get back to you and you wish to contact them yourself. Does anyone have any information on a William Henry Sharp b. abt 1843 married a Ellen Rich? They supposed to have had 9 children. Also, does anyone know of a one room school house located near or in New Market and had a cemetery close by or next to it. Have been told that some of the Sharp's are buried there. Trying to find the cemetery and where Eli Sharp and Jane (Tipton) Sharp are buried. Have not been able to find their grave. Do know that Jane died after the 1880 census. The census taker wrote down she had the consumption's. Back then it was called that, but today it is TB or Cancer. Any info will help Bob

Hi everyone! Im researching a GILES family, specifically Joseph H. GILES b. Oct 1845 who was married to Lucretia J. PETTY b. ?. They had 3 children that I am aware of: Meredith Clarence GILES b. 1883?; Daniel A. GILES b. 1871?; and Hannah D. GILES.
