Hello, I am searching for information about the holdings and residence for George Sterling Smith (1779-1842). He ws living in the Huntsville area between circa 1823 and 1830. He appears to have been buying quite a bit of land. What sources would be the best for me to be able to find out about his residence, and property, please? Thank you, Suella Postles
I went to public schools in Decatur, Morgan Co, AL, with a Ralph Sharp in the 1940's. He or his relatives might well be able to help you. An interenet address search for Ralph Sharp in Decatur, AL, would be a likely first step. Al Hill
Hello All, I spoke with Dorothy Scott Johnson today. She was very helpful in some info that I have been searching. I asked her about copies of her book and she told me that she has around 50 left of Vol. 1. She is going to do a reprint of Vol. 2, in Jan. 99, and is now taking names to put on her waiting list. She was very happy to hear that some of you were interested in obtaining a copy. The cost is $15 per book, this includes shipping. I asked her to put my name on the waiting list for Vol 2 and she said she would be mailing out postcards when they were back from the publishers. If anyone would like a copy of Vol 1, here is her address and phone number. One thing, if you would tell her that I sent you, I would appreciate it. I told her about all of you wonderful people on this list. Dorothy Scott Johnson 2409 Dairy Lane Huntsville AL 35811 (256) 539-9060 Happy Huntin' Everyone Valerie Young

Have ran into a rock wall, I was wondering if anyone would a Marriage CD for Lincoln County, Tenn, Marshall County, Alabama, Madison Co., Al, Jackson County, Al. that may show a William H. Sharp or a William Sharp being married around 1860-66. Trying to find who his wife is. Then I can be sure of the Census of 1860-1870 for Madison County, Alabama. It is believed that William H had about 7 or children. Some that I know is a William Washington Sharp b. 1866, Frank Sharp b. 1875 lived around Owens Cross Rds. Any information will help. Bob Morrison P.S. Everyone have a Happy New Year, and the blessings be many.
Dear Valerie, Regarding cemeteries, I have found many relatives (and a few errors) in the Old Huntsville Magazine web site cemetery listings, and have their listing of "all" cemeteries in Madison County. However, there is no information about the Gurley Cemetery where my West grandparents and great- grandparents are buried, as well as some aunts and uncles. I hope to do a site visit within the next year (I live in Ky.) and perhaps I can do a listing for the Gurley Cemetery to post. Happy New Year to everyone! Carol West
Valerie, Thank you so much for being so helpful. Some of us live far away (I'm in Oregon) and will never be able to travel to the places our ancestors lived. It makes research very hard, as I know first hand that most of our Oregon libraries have very few Alabama resources. If there's anything you need from Oregon, just let me know. At the site of: www.al.com, you will find some valuable information about Alabama. At this site, if you look on the left side of the first screen is a list of cities that Alabama Live! covers. Huntsville is listed here. If you go to the Huntsville page, you will see a listing on the right side. Under the word Feedback, you will see "OBITS" where you can find obituaries listed in the Huntsville Times. As of today, the listing goes back to 4-11-98. For those of you not familar with Huntsville, these obits usually cover North Alabama and Southern Tennessee. I hope this helps. For the direct address to go straight to the obit page, here is that address: http://www.al.com/huntsville/obituaries.html Also, there is a publication printed here in Huntsville called "Old Huntsville Magazine". They too, have a web site. There are several cemeteries listed with names of the people buried there and they have all known cemeteries listed in Madison County. There are only a few that have the actual burial info, but this is well worth the look. Here is their web address: http://oldhuntsville.com/oldhuntsville/ If I can help on this end in any way, please feel free to ask. Remember, we are all in this for the same reasons. thanks Valerie Young

From: marta <[email protected]> RE: AL state census reports Does Any one have easy access to the printed State Censuses? I understand that there were several starting with 1801, 1818, 1821, 1823, 1844, 1855, 1866, 1875, 1907, and 1910. 1907 was for Civil War veterans, does anyone know why the others were taken?
