Since you are looking for a time period after the civil war, chances are much better that they were not burned or otherwise destroyed. I know someone who may know where such records would exist. Email me privately and I will let you know what I find out. If the location of these records are of interest to others, I will post what I find out to the list. Thanks, Bill Savage
Does any one know if it is possible if school records would exsist for the period of 1895-1910. Would they exsist for the rural areas or smaller towns south of Huntsville? Would they exsist for the cotton mill villages which would likely have had their own schools for the children who lived in the housing provided to the workers of the various mill villages, such as Dallas, Lincoln, Merrimack and maybe others? How many months of the year might these children have been allowed to attend school...often they would have started working in the mills themselves as early as twelve years of age...would they have been allowed to have attended school part of the year? What grade would have been the highest grade that these schools would have offered to the students before they would have to go to a boarding school or town school? marta
We are looking for a Richard Giles (b. Virginia) who married an Eliza Elledge; they had at least two children--Joseph H. (b. 1845) and James P. (b. 1848), both born in Alabama (Madison or Jackson counties). Richard possibly married again in 1855 a woman by the name of Lucinda Wilmoth and moved to Wood County, Texas, in the late 1850's. Hi everyone I am a newbie! I am Deanie Humphrey and I just recently found that my husbands ancestors may have ties to Madison Co. AL I am looking for John Henry Humphrey and his family. He would have been born ca. 1850-1880's. I know that is a big span of years, but it is hard to pin point a birthyear when you haven't any info. This John Henry Humphrey may have been married twice. I have conflicting info on him. Family members have told me that in 1900, he had a son named Charles age 43,(married Pearl Dunn) and had they these children: Felton, Albert, Hebert, and Elsie. Then I was told John Henry Humphrey and his wife, Susan Whitehead died young, and John's sister Della who married Lemuel Joyner, had guardianship of John and Susan's youngest children, Brady(age 18, 1910 census Tallapoosa Co.,) Sude(Susan) age 12, 1910 census, and Robert, age 5, 1910 Census. If anyone can help me untangle this mystery, I would really appreciate it. Thanks! Deanie Humphrey
