My great-grandparents were enumerated on the 1880 Madison Co.Ala. census in e.d. 212 (this was hard to read), Township #1. No post office address was given. Can anyone tell me the location of Township #l on the 1880 census? Faye in Texas [email protected]
I would like to hear from anyone whose families lived in the villages connected to and worked in the old Cotton Mills in Madison County. I am most interested in the periods of time from 1900-1925 and 1940-1950. Thank you. marta

Thought everyone could benefit from this info. This Should Answer Question About LDS SEARCH Hello Fellow Researchers, I have been bombarded with questions on the Family Search Website and would like to pass on to you the information I received when I spoke to an "Official" Church spokesperson at Family Search. He advised me of the following: The OFFICIAL LDS Church website is LDS.ORG Go to media resources and find News update. The church is posting updates as they come in as to the state of the family search. Within 3 or 4 minutes of the NEWS UPDATE ANNOUNCING the FAMILY SEARCH is online. They will post it THERE! SO Keep checking. Should be a couple of days. It will be a MASSIVE SITE. They are prepared to test this site using anyone who wishes to go to it and use it. THERE WILL BE NO PASSWORD TO ACCESS IT. The rumor about the password was incorrect. When the site was put up it was restricted to a few....about 100 people who designed it and are putting the finishing touches on it, someone there LEAKED, YES LEAKED, (AN EMPLOYEE) and that is why some of you got in. When the masses bombarded the site it crashed cause it was not finished. They have now given each worker an INDIVIDUAL PASSWORD, SOOOOO IF it gets leaked again they will know who did it. It has been postponed being put online a few days because of the crash. There are now about 12 popular stories going around about Family Search. I ASSURE YOU MINE CAME FROM A CHURCH SPOKESMAN. IF you pass information about the site on to others please just send them this message I have sent you. The whole message. Now please remember this. 1. Go to LDS.org 2. Find Media Resources 3. Check News Updates That will inform you when it is going online. Please notify everyone you know who will be interested. I hope this helps you all. You have my permission to pass this note on to any Genealogy Lists you wish. Again, Please pass the whole note not just sections of it or we will have more rumors. Thanks, Karen Gaughan in Pa. I am searching for the grave of my g-grandmother, Nancy CRYER/CRYAR/CRIER who died ca.1887 and may be buried in Madison County. Will some kind soul please do a look-up for me? Thanks in advance Faye [email protected]
I am trying to puzzle out some names in the census of 1860 for Madison County. I was about to accept a prior researcher's interpretation of an ancestor's name as Mary A.R. Neaves (although I thought it was uncommon for a Scotch-Irish family to have more than 2 given names) when I noticed that other people in the next family down on the page also had the same "initials" after their first names. My entry <looks> at first glance like this: 401/361 Noah Neaves 29 M Machanic Mary A. R 28 F John P. 2 M then names in the next family appear like this: Ashley Rozell 34 M Farmer Elizabeth 42 F Mary L.L. (?) 10 F Margaret A.R 9 F John J. 7 F Sarah N.M.(?) 5 F Wm. A.R. 3 M Dawson G.B. 1 M I DO know that names were often abbreviated such as the Wm. for William, Jno. for John-- but I can't think of any name that might be a female and a male name the abbreviation for which would look like A.R. Does anyone have any ideas? Or have I just found two really weird families living next door to each other, one of whom is kin to me? These names are in the Northwestern District / Madison Cross Roads P.O. district, households 401 and 403; families 361 and 362. I didn't notice this perculiarity until I got home with the copy of the microfilm page so I don't know how "widespread" it is within this district. I would deeply appreciate any enlightenment from you more experienced census readers: I am losing sleep over this! Teresa Neaves
Lewis FINLEY married Parmelia MADDOX in 1825 in Madison Co., Alabama. His brother William FINLEY married Elizabeth Wilson MADDOX in 1833 in Madison Co., MS. They were the daughters of Wilson and Susan ELLIS MADDOX of Huntsville, Madison Co., Alabama. The FINLEY'S settled with their families in Madison Co., MS, and were amongst the largest land owners in the county by the early 1840's. Both Lewis and William were both closely tied to the family of James and Sarah MOORE of Madison Co., MS. Their grandson, James Alexander MOORE (son of Daniel & Mary McCarty MOORE) married a Parmelia MADDOX in 1852 in Madison Co., MS. Her brother was William Ellis MADDOX who graduated from Tulane Medical School in 1860. We've been unable to determine the parents of this Parmelia & William Ellis MADDOX. Are they somehow related to the family of Wilson and Susan ELLIS MADDOX of Madison Co., AL? Would love to hear from anyone who can shed some light on this family. They mailed them on the 6th and sent it first class. After, reading the warning I was concerned about my order. I am sorry Mr. Sartin had a problem with the company, but I wanted to share my experience. Lisa Thompson [email protected]

Dear friends and Genealogists: I will be leaving genealogy for about two years now. I am 19 and leaving on a mission for Portugal tonight. I am leaving my father and mother in charge of carrying on my research. Thank you all for the help that you have been. I look forward to my return to family history when I get back in March of 2001. I am trying to prove my husbands RUBY line. I found information on LDS Ancestor file that Conrad Ruby was born in Madison, Madison Co., AL in 1805. Are there records going back that far? I know he has children there after he married. His father supposedly is John RUBEY b Bedford Co., PA @ 1775. His Brother John (my line) was there in 1824 when he married. He was also b in PA 1802. They had a brother Charles born in TN 1808. Can anyone help with this? The man didn't have a phone listed and I have corresponded with members of this family before but no information about this was known. Wanda
I am posting this to warn others about problems with Census Microfilm Expeditors . Complaints have been filed with the Better Business Bureau and the United States Postal Inspectors , they have informed me that even they can't order this company to give a refund , but may seek criminal charges . I guess small claims court is next . If you are seeking genealogy resources......consider my experiences with this "Firm". Thank you , Kenneth Sartin
Would some kind soul happen to have the film number and order instructions needed to order the microfilm for marriage records for the period up to 1925. I do not have access to these through the library so would need to order them from Alabama. Also what are the names of the early newspaper for Huntsville area that are on microfilm. My work area set up to be able to order Microfilm readers at a good price at the end of the year. Now I am the proud owner of one for my self. It is a wonderful addition to my research time. thank you, marta
