    1. Bridges, Wright, McCord
    2. Researching my ancestor Russell Bean Bridges born about 1820. He married in Franklin County Tennessee 22 Oct 1856 to Mary Ann Morgan. He had a brother Granville Bridges who married 1 Jan 1859 Franklin Co Tenn to Elizabeth McCord. Their sister Elizabeth Bridges married 23 March 1847 Franklin Co Tenn. to George Wright. I believe the Wrights lived in Lincoln County, Granville later lived in Jackson County, and my Russell Bean Bridges lived in Madison County at Hazel Green. My great grandfather bought tombstones for Russell Bean Bridges and wife about 1912, but we have never found the cemetery where they are buried; it could be Madison County, or maybe Lincoln or Franklin County, Tennessee.

    1. Campbell and Smith
    2. Les Campbell
    3. Thanks to all who responded to my post about census districts. I am researching THOMAS S. CAMPBELL, b. ?? in Va or Al, married Mary Jane Smith on 07 Sep 1848 in LImestone county AL. He was an overseer on a plantation in Shoal Ford in 1860 census. He was indicted for assault and battery in 1851 and Richard Smith, Aquilla Brooks, John Lightfoot, and J.N. Davis stood surety for him. Lightfoot was the son of Harrison Lightfoot of Brunswick county VA, who lived in Limestone/Madison county. I believe Richard Smith was Thomas Campbell's father in law, b. 1802 in Virginia, probably Brunswick or Dinwiddie county. Thomas and Mary Jane Campbell's children were: Richard, b. 1849 Benjamin, b. 1851 Nancy Lucretia, b. 1853 John Wesley, b. 1855, Frances "Fanny" b. 1857 William Thomas, b. 1859 Harriet Ann, b. 1861 Charles Carter, b. 1862 Richard, Benjamin, and Harriet were "Smith" names. I am wondering now if the Campbells are descended from Walter Campbell of Scotland, whose will was probated in Brunswick co. Va in 1751, since Walter is a name that pops up occasionally in this Campbell line. I noted in the 1850 census that the Lightfoots lived next to the Western Madison county Campbells, W.B, age 85, from Virginia, and others. Also, a W.B., age 26, an overseer !! More later. Les.

    2. In a message dated 5/31/99 2:17:22 AM Eastern Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: > [email protected] Dear Bob, I have no direct line from the Sharp's of New Hope. However, the sister of my ggf married a Sharp. She was Leila Uptain, married Mr. Sharp (he may be named Albert), they had two children, Jimmie (a girl, died young) and Albert who my mother remembers very well. They resided in the New Hope-Owens Cross Road area. I do not have any dates on Leila or her husband, however, Leila's brother (my ggf) was born 10 March 1845, died 4 Feb. 1922 and is buried in Bethel Cemetery in New Hope. I have run across several references to Albert Sharp in my researching but unfortunately did not take any notes. This is not much info for you. Carol

    3. Les - At its website AGLL (now Heritage Quest) lists microfilms titled "Census Enumeration District for the State of Alabama." These apparently contain discriptions of the enumeration districts for all Alabama censuses. You can order them through AGLL or from the LDS Family History Centers. The identification numbers of the films are shown. The URL is http://www.heritagequest.com/genealogy/microfilm/alabama/html/census_enumeration.html. Hayes Hendricks

    3. I know about the Schrimshers but I can't establish a personal connection with them. I know that old man (name?) Schrimsher was a trader who moved into Indian territory. Deciding that he needed a wife, he "bought" a Cherokee girl, age 15. The girl lived with him, unhappily, for several years. They had several (5) children, but wife refused to adapt to his ways and husband demanded that no Cherokee ways/language be part of his household. She refused to sleep in his bed and eat at his table, and every so often she would return to her people, but come back again until finally one day she just didn't return. This Cherokee girl was Will Rogers' grandmother (maybe greatgrandmother--it's been a while since I read it). I am related to Will, but can't tie it down firmly. I know that my elderly relatives talked about "Uncle Clem and Aunt Mary" who were his parents, but they really don't remember Mary America because she died fairly young. Clem's father was Robert Rogers, with the same name and birthdate, as my gggf. But the locations (Arkansas vs. Okla) were incompatible and there are two different wives, 2 sets of children, etc. I guess that happened sometimes, but Clem was such an upstanding, proper fellow (my folks were too) it seems incredible that could be possible. So I've about decided my relation must come in on the Schrimsher side. My greatgrandmother was Sophronia Davis Rogers (married John Davis). I found a Sophronia Schrimsher in Arkansas, (Greek name) the only other time I found one, so I'm suspicious there is relation there. May I suggest you go to the library and get any and all info on Will Rogers, as you may find something on your Schrimshers. I pulled the record on Mary America Schrimsher at the LDS library in Independence, MO. (No good to me yet.) You can get it too, unless you want to give me a hard address and I can send you a copy. At any rate, I'm very interested in Schrimshers, whether they are relatives or not. I'm going to be in Nashville in a couple of weeks and I'll look there too.
