    1. RE: Madison County Newspapers?
    2. Kenneth M. Hinkle
    3. Vicki, The following link to the AL Dept. Archives & History (ADAH) lists the newspapers in the area that are on microfilm and gives information on how to get interlibrary loans for the copies. Either The Huntsville Times or The Huntsville News would be the most likely source for finding the early March 1991 article you are seeking. The Madison County Record is another possibility though it is a smaller, weekly publication of Madison County. I see one possible problem that you perhaps have already encountered. The archives seem to only up UNTIL Dec. of 1990. The Madison County Record is listed as being archived up until Dec. of 1994 so perhaps it IS a possibility. Of course, it's not nearly as full coverage as the two larger papers would be. I still would check it out if I were you. I will take a look if and when I get time at the library but sometimes I just don't get the time. I can't believe the library wouldn't have anything anymore recent than 1990. Since your query is pretty well defined and recent and likely to be fairly easily to find, I would think the local, Huntsville, Madison County librarian on duty might even be of some help though normally they can't do individual research. All that failing, there are some local professional researchers listed at the linked pages from this site that would probably find it for a small fee. There may be others listening in on this list, who are there more frequently than I, who will look it up for you for free! Another bit of information you may or may not be aware of; The Huntsville News is archived back to 1922 (no help for your particular problem, I realize) but is no longer being published. The Huntsville Times is our only current, daily newspaper but looks like only it may only be microfilmed back to abt. 1982. Perhaps that's when it was founded. I can't remember for sure. All three papers were being published in 1991 though. http://www.archives.state.al.us/newsp/madison.html Ken Hinkle -----Original Message----- From: Vicki Conklin [SMTP:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, June 06, 1999 12:15 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Madison County Newspapers? 1. Cherokee Reservees, by David Keith Hampton-can't find book!
    2. Carol Smith
    3. Hi, Just returned from SLCity, after finding a great lead on my Amos Roberson, Robertson or Robinson (different sources have different spellings). The book we needed was not on the shelves at the library, and we are hoping to find someone who has access to it. There should be more info. on the Cherokees who received land, and I am hoping to get a Cherokee name for Amos. At least a lead. Can't do anything without, and it seems that the Cherokees adopted English names at the time they received their reservations. Amos received 640 acres from the government in Marshall Co, AL, and my Andrew Ice from Madison Co. married Eliza, who might just be dau. of Amos. We find references to the reservation of Amos, and that Eliza was connected. Found info. in a land record. Sure need help with this. Thanks for any! Carol

    2. Mortality Schedules are made 6 months before the Census year or 6 months after if I remember correctly. I know there was one in 1850 and on to present time. I don't know about before that. For the person wanting the Newspaper Articles, write to the newspaper. They should have the papers on microfilm. Wanda

    1. My BRIDGES family THANKS!!!!
    2. THANK YOU to everyone who responded to my lost Bridges family tombstones! It took the list members less than two days to find what my great uncles had searched for, for thirty years. My gr gr grandparents: Russell Bean Bridges ( 24 Nov 1822; 19 Dec 1900) wife Mary Ann Morgan ( 26 July 1830. death date blank) both buried at Miller Cemetery north of New Market. Another researcher found my great grandparents at Concord Cemetery at Hazel Green: John Russell Bridges ( 25 March 1867; 24 April 1920) wife Exie Ora Jones ( 6 March 1877; 28 July 1940). Another found Russell Bean Bridges' brother and wife in Jackson County: Granville Bridges 1827-1903 and wife Elizabeth McCord 1829-1884. Thanks again for all the help and for this breakthrough!!!! I am going to post about my Jones, Bridges, Jehu Lawler, and Israel T. KILPATRICK lines soon. Marshel Roy Cunningham in Shelby County Alabama
