    1. Fw: Alabama Genealogical Society Fall Seminar
    2. Caroline
    3. These programs are excellent - speakers as well as vendors with all the books you "need". Alabama Genealogical Society Fall Seminar > ----- Original Message ----- Make your plans now to attend the Fall Seminar in Montgomery, AL, on Saturday, October 20, 2001. We will explore the two primary overland routes used to move into the area which is now known as Alabama. An excellent panel of knowledgeable speakers will present a program on the two primary overland routes (the Federal Road and the Huntsville Road) used by pioneers to move into the area now known as Alabama. The Federal Road was a major influence in the settlement of the Mississippi Territory during the period between the Louisiana Purchase and the removal of the Creek Indians. In 1806 a horsepath for postal riders through a malaria-infested wilderness was opened through the Creek Nation, stretching from middle Georgia to coastal Alabama. It was widened into a military road starting in 1811 in anticipation of the War of 1812, running from Fort Wilkinson near Milledgeville, GA to Fort Stoddert at the Mount Vernon Landing on the Mobile River, just east of present day Mount Vernon, AL. The Federal Road carried thousands of pioneers and directly contributed to the dramatic increase in Alabama's population between 1810 and 1820. The Huntsville Road was the main thoroughfare for settlers coming from the Tennessee Valley into Alabama, running from Huntsville through Blountsville, Jonesborough and Bucksville into Tuscaloosa. Mr. James H. Walker, Jr., author of "Roupes Valley," will present his Huntsville Road research. Three speakers on the Federal Road are being provided by Landmarks Foundation of Montgomery, Inc., which manages a collection of 40 restored19th century buildings in Montgomery. They are Mark Dauber, Dr, Craig Mann and Jeffrey C. Benton. Please contact Jyl Hardy, President, jylhardy@bellsouth.net for additional registration information. > > ==== ALABAMA Mailing List ==== > > Check out this site http://kumite.com/myths/ for Virus Hoaxes > > myths, and chain letters. 3. Interesting source about a "nursery rhyme" ----- Original Message ----- From: "Evelyn DeRamus" <ederamus@knology.net> To: "Caroline" <carolineh@knology.net> Sent: Sunday, July 01, 2001 7:37 PM Subject: Ring Around the Rosey The nursery rhyme "Ring Around the Rosey" is a rhyme about the plague. Infected people with the plague would get red circular sores ("Ring around the rosey"), these sores would smell very badly so common folks would put flowers on their bodies somewhere conspicuously, so that it would cover the smell of the sores ("a pocket full of posies"). Furthermore, people who died from the plague would be burned so as to reduce the possible spread of the disease ("ashes, ashes, we all fall down").

Is anyone else out there researching the Burnes family in Madison Co? I have alot of info on his descendants, but would like more info on him in Madison Co. Thanks! Barb Price

    1. A warning
    2. I am sending this message to all the groups I am a member of so all will be warned. I was a member of the Rootsweb Craft site for several years and recently canceled my membership (about 3 weeks ago). This morning I got three emails...all from the same "person", referencing emails I had sent to the Crafts site seeking information for a project I was working on. On each of the emails I received this morning was an attachment, insisting I should open it for further information. I became suspicious since I was no longer with the Crafts group so I sent all their members a warning. I received this message back from them a few minutes ago from the list owner and it occurred to me that this person might be sending emails to other lists as well. Here is what the Crafts list owner told me... "the whole list is being sent these things, it is coming right from the person......! This person also operates out of an address that is only different with a 02 on it. Just delete anything from them. That is the Badtrans Kak worm and will destroy your computer." The person sending out this dangerous message is identified as jsgm02@atl.media. Please be careful and immediately delete anything received from this address. Virginia Adams
