    1. William and Rachel HARRIS, as well as the ROWELLS
    2. I am researching William and Rachel Harris in Franklin, Macon County, AL. William- born 1815 SC died before 1900 Rachel- born 1823 SC died after 1900 Children: Ed Herbert, Savannah, Alice, Laura, and possibly a Monroe and a 'Judge'. There are probably many more children because of the large gaps in the ages of these children. Savannah and Alice never married, and they along with Rachel were living with Ed Herbert and his family in the 1900 census. Laura married into the Carrolls of Macon County. Ed became the highway commissioner or something like that of Macon County. Ed married Lucy Emma DUKE and they had the following children: Jesse Herbert, Lucy, Homer, Walter, and Nadine. I have been told that Homer, born 1894, moved away and because a minor league baseball players. Has anyone ever heard of a baseball player named Homer Harris in the 1920s-1950s? Nadine never married. Jesse Herbert married Mary Emma ROWELL, who is descended from Claude P., Robert W., Albert Henry, and Howell Rowell of that area. Laura, Ed, and their spouses are buried at Salem-Macon Church in Notasulga. I do not know where the rest are. They are probably buried at one of the many small churches in the area, perhaps with unmarked graves. William and Rachel came to Alabama from South Carolina in the 1850s, according to the birthplaces of their children in census records. These names are hard to trace because they are so common.
