Is anyone researching the Holts that were in Macon Co in 1870? I have Perry HOLT born 1820 in SC and Surrena ARANT born abt 1823 in SC. Perrys family intermarried with Hancocks . Came into Chambers Co before 1840, then to Tallapoosa then to Macon then to Elmore. Anyone tie to these families. Helene !History: HOLT TO LOFTIN - The State of Alabama, Tallapoosa County, Know all men by these presents, all men by these presents, that I, Perry Holt, has this mortgaged and by these presents, do mortgage one yoke of red steers, one wagon and Jak about 4 years old to secure George Loftin in the payment of four Forty Dollar Notes made payable to Francis W. Hood, due the 25th day of December 1861. Now if the above bound Perry Holt shall pay or cause to be paid, the above described notes on or by the time they become due then this mortgage to be of no effect. If not then the said George Loftin shall have power to sell said property by advertising the same 30 days at three public places and pay said notes above described with all cost and expenses and if any over pay to said Holt. A. Shaw, the following property - to wit: five mules viz 1 gray mare, 12 years old named Jude, 2 mares, colored, named Moby and Beck, 1 sorrel horse named Doc (or named Jack Black Hope), 3 yoke of oxen, 1 four horse ox waggon, our entire stock of cattle, between 15 and 20 head and our entire crop for the present year. The condition of the above obligation is such that if the said Perry Holt, Serena Holt, B. F. Gunn, Mattie Gunn and Mary Hughey shall pay or cause to be paid the above mentioned note or place in the hands of the said W. A. Shaw or his legal representatives, sufficient quantity of cotton to satisfy said debt by maturity, then this obligation is to be void. But if the said note shall not be paid or cotton delivered as aforesaid by maturity of said note, or if the said Holts, Gunns and Hughey, neither of them shall dispose of or attempt to dispose of any of the above described property before the repayment of said note without the written consent of said W. A. Shaw. However, in that case, full perfect and complete authority is hereby given to the said W. A. Shaw, his heirs, executors, administrators, administrators or assigns to seize and take possession of all the above described property and after given 20 days notice by advertising on the postoffice door in the town of Notasulga to proceed to sell the same to the highest bidder for cash and after paying the said note and all costs the residue of the money to be paid to the said Holts, Gunns, Hughey, their heirs, executors, administrators or assigns.
