Delilah, you are right that the VA hospital in Tuskegee still exists, though there have been some changes. A few years ago when the VA was closing hospitals, some duplicate facilities at the Montgomery and Tuskegee VA Hospitals were merged. They are now referred to as the Central Alabama Veterans' Health Care System - East Campus (Tuskegee) and West Campus (Montgomery). They are about 40 miles apart. If I understand correctly from relatives down there who are veterans, instead of getting a full menu of services at both places, you may have to go to Tuskegee if you need, say, geriatric services, and Montgomery for orthopedics, but between the two campuses, it's still a full-service medical facility. So far as I know, John Andrew Community Hospital in Tuskegee is still serving the non-veteran community. I think they may have reduced some services a few years ago, too, though. I'm from Tallassee, about 15 miles from Tuskegee, and last time somebody in my family was hospitalized at Community Hospital in Tallassee, I spent a lot of time in the ICU waiting room chatting with folks who were from Tuskegee. Can't remember the details of what they said about it, but I have the impression that John Andrew is no longer a comprehensive hospital as it used to be, thus more people from Tuskegee are coming to Tallassee. However, any records that were at John Andrew should still be there. Suzanne
