    1. [ALMacon] HARWELL, HOWARD, GRAVES, SETTLE--all mid to late 1800's

    3. I am researching these members of my mother's maternal line who made it from Caswell (and Rockingham) county in North Carolina to Tuskegee. Alexis Howard, my great-great-great-great grandfather, brought his 3rd wife Mary Graves over and their children. With them came his son and wife, my great-great-great grandparents, Dr. Henry Allen Howard and wife Elizabeth Graves Settle. Elizabeth was Mary Graves' niece; her mother being Frances Graves, an older sister of Mary. Both Frances and Mary were children of General Azariah Graves and wife Elizabeth Williams. Dr. Henry and Elizabeth Howard had 8 children; seven of whom survived to adulthood. Their son Josiah Alexis HOWARD married Mary (Mollie) HARWELL in Montgomery, Alabama in 1880. Mollie was a daughter of wealthy merchant and slave trader Mason HARWELL and wife Sarah SEAGER HARWELL. Mason and Sarah had 10 children. Mollie was their next-to-the youngest. Mason (born in 1806) died in 1879. Sarah Seager Harwell passed away September 1, 1880, a month prior to Mollie and Josiah's marriage. Pat Hansen
