Unfortunately, none of my ancestors were on it. I just might write him and ask for a copy (I don't know why I didn't in the first place). I also did a complete walkthru of Hickory Hill on digital . Hope to get that posted to usgenweb. I also have some digital of Nebraska and Hardaway and one other. I haven't gotten them off the card yet.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/QS.2ADE/882.1.5.1.1.1 Message Board Post: I grew up in Tuskegee, but no long live there. In my memory, the three in-town cemeteries in Tuskegee. They are: 1) Tuskegee City Cemetery, on Lane Street, where whites are buried, a record of which is in the possession of the Alabama Department of Archives and History, in Montgomery. 2) Ashdale Cemetery, on Lane Street, where African Americans are buried (across from the "white" cemetery); and 3) Greenwood Cemetery, on Old Montgomery Road. This cemetery is traditionally thought of as the cemetery for the Tuskegee Institute/University community, but it is by no means exclusive to University families. A smaller cemetery exists of the gournds of Tuskegee University. This is where BTW is buried, along with other TU presidents, faculty and some of their family members. Just outside of the Tuskegee city limits are several smaller, church buriel grounds, as someone has already mentioned, including Ft. Hull and Chehaw, where African Americans are also buried. To my knowledge, none of the African-Americans buriel places in Tuskegee have been fully inventoried and documented, although a few years ago, local LDS people went through the two most prominent ones (Ashdale and Greenwood) and made a compilation, which I actually saw (in the possession of Burton's Funeral Home), but I have not been able to find a reprint and don't know who to contact for this material. I wish I knew... It might help if you to identify all of the possible buriel locations throughout Macon Co. if you would request a county map from the City of Tuskegee's land/real estate office. These maps denote all of the buriel places in the county that are identifiable, preserved, and/or still in use. Hope this helps.

Plz forgive me...though I just returned from there, I can't give you the names. One is on W. Montgomery St. One is on Lane St. And one is at Hickory Hill. If you look up in yellow pages, you should be able to find and write directly to them. I only photographed Hickory Hill because it was so remote.

If you go to the US Geological Survey site, it will give you most of the cemeteries in Alabama. Creek Stand is very small. You may want to write to the church directly to get the information. I took some pictures from several cemeteries, but not that one.

    3. The City library in Tuskegee is very small, not sure what is available - the courthouse should have the usual courthouse stuff, if you come down thru Monrgomery on I-65 (driving), a stop at the archives shold be on your list, also tthe City of Auburn library has practicall nothing genealogy-wise, instead try Auburn University library, you will need a parking permit thru the week, but all you have to do is go by AU PD and get one, the Lee County Courthouse in Opelika and their library may have some info as Lee, Macon & Russell should be be together - also the Birmingham Public Library is a good resource - if you tell me whch way you coming, maybe I can help you with directions. delilah evans ----- Original Message ----- From: < > To: <ALMACON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, June 21, 2004 8:46 PM Subject: Re: [ALMacon] Macon County trip planned > I will be interested also any records available for researchin Macon Co Ala > as I am moving to Spring Hill Tenn in the near future, We have a contingency on > a home there, So I will be making more than one trip to Macon County Ala, . > My Lee family lived near Tuskegee from before 1850-1870.
