    1. New S. Carolina Mail List Starting
    2. Joe & Laura Schmidt
    3. A new mailing list is starting! We are [email protected] . To subscribe e-mail [email protected] for mail mode, or [email protected] . We have seen a need for an additional South Carolina list, to supplement what there currently is available. We will strive to keep the topic regarding genealogy in the South Carolina area and some can sneak out to locales nearby. History and genealogy discussions are encouraged. Flame wars will not be allowed, but open discussions of genealogy methods, lineages, and success stories is encouraged. Don't expect your list maintainer to get involved a lot, as this list maintainer likes to just be thought of as just another subscriber! If flaming starts, the list maintainer won't warn more than once, but will just unsubscribe the offenders, let them cool their heals, and they can resubscribe if they choose. If they repeat themselves, they will be banned! Any message regarding genealogy in this region, or RootsWeb is encouraged. If you have a problem with something on the list, please e-mail the list maintainer privately and the situation will be reviewed. After a few weeks I received a notice from them that they found what I wanted and asked that I send about fifteen dollars, which I did. No response. I sent an e-mail asking the status of my research. No answer. Just wondering if others had similar experiences. Thanks! 3. I agree that we should all help. I check my vast variety of lists several times a day...don't know where I would be without it. I also belong to several family organizations, the National Genealogical Society and my local. I write those checks once a year and smile. Why don't I do the same for something I use every day...I just never thought about who paid for this great service, but I will now gladly send something. I don't need another cook book...who has time to cook when I am busy searching for ancestors so I am going to send a check right to them. If everyone reading this list sent $1.00 think how much that would help out. Beth Sloan (looking for a darn stamp! 3. Tonight's topic at Afternet's #GenealogyForum is Rowan and surrounding counties in North Carolina. It is at 8:00 eastern time, though I know for us late comers they will stick around. They have a different topic three nights a week. Remember bring your family names you are researching! They post them all the time and they really have been having luck making connections. If you want to see upcoming events, go to: http://cust2.iamerica.net/pscobb/events.htm ! I am not affiliated with this IRC channel, I just know where I get the most help and the most patient op's. If you are not on IRC, and want to learn more, go to: http://cust2.iamerica.net/pscobb/Access1.htm And to learn how to use you mIRC, when you are a newbie, or like me and have brainfog occasionally go to: http://cust2.iamerica.net/pscobb/mIRCing.htm I would like to thank tex^mom, Robinator, Gerald^, Howdy, ChatRbug, Cheyanne, Arch, Runt, Vorky, Hurk, JustMe2 and all the other channel operators for the help they have given me. Laura -----Original Message----- From: Joe & Laura Schmidt <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Thursday, April 16, 1998 10:28 AM Subject: Family Book Offer As long as you perpetuate the farce that Halberts started many years ago, I will no longer be a customer with your company and the below response you gave to one concerned customer is being sent to over 1000 mail lists, so these fellow family researchers can judge your company's concern for the economic well being of the uninformed new family researchers. Laura L Schmidt ____________________________________________________________________________ _____ Chevron is mailing their credit card holders a solicitation for the Halbert's "The New World Book of (Your Family Name)! When I contacted Chevron, and complained, they replied as follows: "Halberts is in compliance with the U.S. Post Office. The disclosure is on the solicitation that is in a box on the order form. It states "No direct genealogical connection to your family or to your ancestry is implied or intended." The information in the book contains only a general look at your name, the people who share it, and how you can go about expanding your knowledge of your family history. The book gives addresses as to how you can research this information."
