    2. Karen A. Belcher
    3. Hi, Walter Joshua WILLIAMS (b. 3 Dec 1868 in GA) & Minnie Rebecca MCELROY (b. 1 Jan 1875 in Texas) are my husband's great grandparents. From the information we've gathered so far, they lived in Jones Co, MS, from about 1893 to about 1903; Troup Co, GA, from about 1903 to about 1912; Notasulga, Macon Co, AL, from about 1912 to about 1922; and Lochapoka, Lee Co, AL, from about 1922 on. They are buried in the Notasulga Cemetery, Macon Co, Al. It has been difficult tracking down this very mobile family. <G> I'd like to exchange information with anyone else who's researching this family. Also, I think their marriage may be listed on Broderbund CD #005, Marriage Index for AR, MO, MS, TX 1766-1981. If anyone has that CD, I'd greatly appreciate a lookup. Thanks very much. Karen B

    1. Fort Hull, AL
    2. Hello List - Can anyone give me the county and location of old Fort Hull, Alabama. This place is probably located in the mid-eastern part of AL, perhaps in present- day Macon, Montgomery, Bullock, or Russell county. This place is referenced as the location of Revolutionary-War-era federal installation, along with "Fort Montgomery" and others, in a narrative, which includes discussion of Creek alliances prior to the Fort Mims massacre. Specifically, I am looking for the location of the "Fort Hull Cemetary", where it is said that my ggrandmother is buried. Any directions or references to specific URL sites will be appreciated. Thanks... Annette Researching: Harper, Speed, Lennard/Leonard (Nat. Amer.), Tarver, Lane, Green(e), Chappell, Krouse, Austin, Besteda, Patrick, McLane/McLean...all found in AL counties.

    2. Okay, I need help: I've been away from home and off-line for about a week. I have just returned home expecting to find TONS of mail from several mailing lists to which I have subscribed. Amazingly, I find only a modest few message....not many from my favorite lists. What happened? Does anyone know? Did my list-mail get back- logged and I was therefore kicked off the list(s)? Do I need to re-subscribe? This message has been directed to a few of my favorite lists. List managers, if you are watching, please put me back on the distribution list or provide instructions, if you know the reason for this anomally. Thanks. 1. Review of Cemetery Research
    2. Cartographic Research Lab
    3. Dear Genealogical Enthusiast, The University of Alabama’s Cartographic Research Laboratory is creating an atlas of Alabama cemeteries. The atlas, entitled the Historical Atlas of Alabama, Volume II: Cemetery Locations by County, is scheduled to be complete in the summer of 1999. We would like to know if you would be interested in reviewing the information we have collected thus far for your Alabama county or counties of interest. Obviously local experts on cemeteries are of great importance to the creation of a complete and accurate book. Please email us at [email protected] with your postal mailing address as well as the names of the counties if you would like to review our research. We would be happy to send you the information. Please know that this information comes at no obligation, we are simply interested in confirming the completeness and accuracy of our data. To find out more about us, please feel free to visit our new web site at: http://www.as.ua.edu/geography/cart_lab/ Thank you for your consideration, Craig Remington Director, Cartographic Research Lab Department of Geography, University of Alabama

As you can tell some of the dates seem odd. Most all of James A.'s children had a middle initial "A" , some of them we are not sure of yet. We are from Louis Aaron Beard and Lula Brown. We have been in Hardin County Texas almost 100 years. Census shows James A Beard born Alabama, married both wives Tallapoosa Alabama, moved to Arkansas around 1850 according to Ouachita County Census was there also 1860. Haven't located 1870 or 80. 1900 James A Beard was in Angelina County Texas with his daughter and son in law Permelia & Richard Knight, Its very possible that he was in a surrounding county in Arkansas or had moved to Logansport Louisiana or Newton County Texas. Louis Aaron Beard was supposed to have been born Texas, but haven't proved yet. POssibly the father of James A. Beard could be Berry Beard and Nancy Hay . And that's another story. Hope someone could use this information. Mary Russell Beard

    1. Information from Cindy
    2. John & Jan Radford
    3. Hi Folks. I am passing along a message from Cindy that can help us all. Hello all - Karen Isaacson and I have talked many times about how January effects our incoming e-mail flow. It is clearly a well-documented event now as we are already beginning to see it coming into play for the fourth-year running (since we first noted the phenomenon). I'm sure many of you will be seeing the same thing as List Owners and/or webmasters, so I thought I would pass on a bit of advice and food for thought. Each January we see a huge influx of newbies joining us online because Santa was generous and left a sparkling new computer under the tree. There are also many after-holidays sales which offer people the opportunity to purchase a snazzy new computer or modem. Many people get online for the first time and enthusiastically don their cyber-bikinis, hitting the surf with gusto. They are excited to be here and they are (much as we "oldbies" were) rightfully overwhelmed by all that there is to see and do. The language here is foreign to them. The technology is newer, fancier and zippier than they may have used in the past. And the way that we all participate in our giant, online genealogical society, while being very similar to offline groups, is still a bit different than they may be prepared for. In other words, it is a brave new world to them. I would like to put out a call to each of you to show these newbies that we are a friendly, welcoming and helpful group of online genealogists. To do so we all need to pitch in and show patience, understanding and kindness. We also need to put on our teaching caps and be prepared to show them the ropes. 1. Don't make assumptions. 2. Explain things in detail, include URLs and complete instructions. 3. Verify details and addresses before you send them to people. 4. Offer to help people privately via e-mail, off of the mailing lists. 5. Be prepared to explain things more than once, in more than one way. 6. Keep in mind that we were all new at one time. 7. Keep in mind that we all learn something new every day. There are several places online to which you can point newbies in order to help them learn about this new research venue. I have tried to make these easy to locate by setting up links on my site: Internet Stuff You Need To Know http://www.CyndisList.com/internet.htm Also be sure to point them to these basic starting places online: Cyndi's List of Genealogy Sites on the Internet http://www.CyndisList.com Your genealogical research portal onto the Internet RootsWeb http://www.RootsWeb.com See the RootsWeb Help Desk: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~help/index.htm Genealogy Resources on the Internet - Mailing Lists http://users.aol.com/johnf14246/gen_mail.html USGenWeb http://www.USGenWeb.org Good luck and successful surfing to everyone online - both newbies and oldbies, Cyndi ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Cyndi Howells Puyallup, Washington [email protected] Cyndi's List - Over 39,400 links in over 90 categories! http://www.CyndisList.com My Book: "Netting Your Ancestors - Genealogical Research on the Internet" http://www.CyndisList.com/netting.htm John and Jan Radford [email protected] Baton Rouge, La

    3. Hi Folks. First of all, Thanks for all the efforts and contributions all of you have made during 1998. I may have gotton more out of the lists and home pages than many of you. However, I hope all of you got something out of participating on the list. Thanks for those who sent in suggestions on the County and Parish home pages. The work in not done. We can add additional information about the counties to improve the pages. Some of the Counties/Parishes are more active than others. Thats' OK. All have been helpfull. I am going to give some statistics followed by some timely information about RootsWeb. By the way, since closing the Lists and changing the configuration, at least six spams have been blocked. RootsWeb sends them all to me in case they are not a spam. It looks like the spams are comming from AOL subscribers. Nice to know information: These are the counties my wife and I work with. Number on the Number on the Number of County List L list D list Queries Bullock, Al 51 20 61 Macon, Al 51 16 75 Pike, Al 170 67 271 Tallapoosa, Al 144 45 202 Jones, Ga 118 44 207 Iberia, La 45 16 78 St Martin, La 43 22 68 RADFORD 68 12 Many Surnames on the surname pages are too many to count. After scanning the pages, I think some good things are going on. Now some need to know information. RootsWeb has been providing free space to host the mail list and Gen Forum list. They also host county and state home pages. It is free to all subscribers, however it is expensive to operate. Since what I want and need to say will be long, I am going to follow up this messsage with the RootsWeb message in a separate e-mail. It is important. May all of you have a happy and productive new year. John and Jan Radford [email protected] Baton Rouge, La

    1. Connect With Surnames surname registry
    2. Amy Brown
    3. Connect With Surnames http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Bluffs/7708 is a surname registry that is here to serve the genealogy community. Listed here are thousands of websites and researchers under the surnames they are interested in. Anyone can submit up to 10 surnames to be listed whether they have a website or not, however most visitors to the Connect With Surnames visit the genealogy sites listed under surnames they are researching. There is a Listbot mailing list with over 675 members that you can join to find out immediately when and which surnames have been updated with new listings. There is a directory of surname specific webrings, one of the most complete that I have seen. The website stays in the top 20 at Gensite, averaging over 100 hits per day, and over 27000 hits since June 23, 1998. There is a volunteer committee that performs **monthly** checks to make sure that all websites no longer in existance or closed email addresses are removed from the listings. Why not come on over for a visit at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Bluffs/7708 Please note that this website is in Geocities, which requires the use of Javascript and possibly cookies (not my doing, but Geocities' doing). I love genealogy, I love this website, and this is why I provide this service. Happy Hunting! Hope that you make some connections! 3. >From another list: Hi everyone! As we all are basking in our new-found resources ALL of which are made possible for us through the courtesy of RootsWeb I thought there was something that is going on right now behind the scenes at RootsWeb that you all should know about this holiday season. Palladium Software, a major sponsor of Rootsweb was recently bought by another company. (The LEarning CO.) As a result it would appear that they have dropped their sponsorship of Rootsweb. Karen Isaacson and Brian Leverich (owners of Rootsweb) have had to take out a large personal loan to make ends meet at Rootsweb as a result. So please consider becoming a member of Rootsweb and support them monetarily if at all possible. They have done an awful lot for us in providing a home for our list and space for our website, and also our new GenConnect Boards. To join Rootsweb please go to: http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/how-to-subscribe.html
