Am researching the Hallonquist (of Swedish descent) family in Alabama and have two different infos on burial place for Laurent Daniel Hallonquist 1. died April 17, 1879, buried at Notasulga, Macon Co., Alabama. 2. died 187? at Wetumpka, Alabama, and buried Montgomery, Alabama. If I could exclude or confirm Notasulga it would be a great help. Haven't checked carefully but I guess there is only one Notasulga in Alabama. I know Dale Segrest, an attorney, lives in Shorter in one of the old Cloud plantation houses they got from my Aunt Bessie's estate (Bessie Wilson CLOUD Hamilton). She was my great aunt on the Cloud side of my family and my great great aunt on my Hamilton side of the family. Is this Dale's wife? Think when the CUBAHATCHEE BAPTIST CHURCH OF CHRIST disbanded, the Cubahatchee Baptist Church stayed in existence because in 1875, when Noah Bartlett Cloud died, he left money for the Cubahatchee Church Orphanage. Though in the same exact area, there was the Calebee Baptist Church too where in the 1860-1900's Rev John J. Cloud preached and was buried at in 1906 Laura http://mapping.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html CUBAHATCHEE, MACON COUNTY, ALABAMA - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- 3 Feature records have been selected from GNIS.* - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Feature Name: Cubahatchee Church Feature Type: church State: Alabama County: Macon USGS 7.5' x 7.5' Map: Shorter Latitude: 322343N Longitude: 0855531W Show Feature Location Show Feature Details Feature Name: Cubahatchee Creek Feature Type: stream State: Alabama County: Macon USGS 7.5' x 7.5' Map: Shorter Latitude: 322538N Longitude: 0855944W Show Feature Location Show Feature Details Feature Name: Cubahatchee Lookout Tower Feature Type: tower Elevation: 370 State: Alabama County: Macon USGS 7.5' x 7.5' Map: Shorter Latitude: 322402N Longitude: 0855501W Show Feature Location Show Feature Details Feature Name: Calebee Feature Type: populated place Elevation: 336 State: Alabama County: Macon USGS 7.5' x 7.5' Map: Shorter Latitude: 322307N Longitude: 0855304W Show Feature Location Show Feature Details Feature Name: Calebee Creek Feature Type: stream State: Alabama County: Macon USGS 7.5' x 7.5' Map: Shorter Latitude: 322634N Longitude: 0855652W Show Feature Location Show Feature Details Feature Name: Calebee Post Office (historical) Feature Type: post office State: Alabama County: Macon USGS 7.5' x 7.5' Map: La Place Latitude: UNKNOWN Longitude: UNKNOWN Show Feature Location Show Feature Details ----- Original Message ----- From: Mic Barnette <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, July 22, 1999 2:43 PM Subject: Re: Macon Co Churches in 1850's > Susan: > > I have some good news for you. > > In 1992 William and Patricia Martin published CUBAHATCHEE BAPTIST CHURCH OF > CHRIST CHURCH BOOK 1838-1850 (Macon Co, AL). Susan: I have some good news for you. In 1992 William and Patricia Martin published CUBAHATCHEE BAPTIST CHURCH OF CHRIST CHURCH BOOK 1838-1850 (Macon Co, AL). The price was then $20. The authors' address in 1992 was 4501 SW 62nd Court, Miami, FL 33155. If that address is no longer valid, I suggest you do a telephone search. I saw something about them within the last 6 months in a genealogical periodical (don't remember which on), so they are still active in Genealogy. Following is a paraphrased history of the church from the Introduction of the book: The Church was formed in 1837. The church grew and prospered. It began to decline about 1845 when Ebenezer Church was formed, taking many of Cubahatchee's key members. The second reduction of membership came from the great movement to the West in the middle and late 1840's. Those who were left in the church , were reduced to "bickering" and fighting among themselves. The church was dissolved in the summer of 1850 by a vote of 14 for, and 3 against dissolution. Over the course of the 13 years of it's existence, there were 108 colored and 147 white members of the church mentioned or discussed in the church minutes Many of the people mentioned in the minutes were from Georgia and South Carolina. I checked AMERICAN PLACE NAME OF LONG AGO by Gilbert S Bahn. It is a list of places listed mainly in the 1890 Federal Census. No Cubahatchee is listed. I looked around my office for a current map of Alabama and did not locate one quickly. (I know I have one). Maybe someone knows where the church was located in Macon Co. I do not know and the book did not say. MIC Mic Barnette's Writes a Weekly Genealogy Column In The Houston Chronicle.
