He married January 2, 1871 in Lowndes County Alabama to Martha Alice Daniels born July 11, 1851 in Lowndes County Alabama; died August 10, 1826 in Mount Willing Lowndes County Alabama. Martha was the daughter of Hulda Hill and John J. Daniels. Joseph and Martha had 5 children: 1st) John Robert Hinson born about 1872 in Lowndes County Alabama; died April 1, 1939 in Mount Willing Lowndes County Alabama. He married about 1902 to Mary Lowe. 2nd) Evans Hinson born 1876; died 1910; buried Brightman Cemetery, Hayneville Lowndes County Alabama. He married December 25, 1904 in Lowndes County Alabama to Earnestine Poole. 3rd) Martha Hinson born May 24, 1880; died August 27, 1970 in Mount Willing, Lowndes County Alabama. She married October 25, 1905 in Lowndes County Alabama to James Elliott Scarborough. 4th) Sallie Bell Hinson born October 31, 1888 in Lowndes County Alabama; died January 23, 1958 in Mount Willing Lowndes County Alabama. She married December 25, 1917 in Lowndes County Alabama to Emmitt Lloyd Lee. 5th) Mary Hinson born March 17, 1878; died 1969 and buried in Hayneville Cemetery, Lowndes County Alabama.
