Lewis Moulton Hall was born about 1835 according to the 1860 US Census in Lowndes County. He married Mrs. Charlotte Hobby on May 5, 1859, marriage book 3, page 337, married by E. D. Lavender, JP. The marriage bond was co-signed by E. D. Mopas and it was noted on the license that Charlotte was a widow. Charlotte Pace Lee married William J. Hobby on Dec. 23, 1847, marriage book 2, page 008, by A. M. Simmons, JP. They had one known child, Alice Icedo Hobby, born July 17, 1851. Alice married William Henry Hawkins on March 17, 1872, marriage book A, page 329, married by James Sheehan, MG, bond co-signed by D. S. Sampley. Charlotte married 2nd to Lewis Moulton Hall as described above. Charolotte married 3rd James Crook Hobby on May 30, 1869, marriage book A, page 179, married by Joseph M. Scott, MG, bond co-signed by L. R. Lloyd. They had at least 2 children: Ada Lee Hobby, and Ida Crook Hobby. Charlotte and James are buried in Cross Roads Cemetery as is their daughter Ada Lee and her husband, George Thomas Day. In the 1860 US Census, Lewis M. Hall is found on page 13, Northern Division, family #97. The following is that record abstracted: L. M. Hall, age 25, male, born in AL, a planter C. Hall, age 30, female, born in AL Eliza Hall, age 11/12, female, born in AL Charlotte Hall, age 48, female, born in AL A. C. Hall, age 22, male, born in AL John Hall, age 20, male, born in AL Samuel Hall, age 17, male, born in AL Frank Hall, age 14, male, born in AL Warren Hall, age 8, male, born in AL Adolphus Hall, age 6, male, born in AL Laura Hall, age 2, female, born in AL John Hannah, age 23, male, born in AL. >From this record and the marriage date for Lewis and Charlotte, I have come to the conclusion that Laura is not their daughter. Could be she was born out of wedlock. I have also concluded that Charlotte Hall was the mother to all the Hall children except Eliza. Laura is the question. As to the marriage records - I have been going page by page through these records and have personally recorded all the information I have given you. I feel sure my dates are correct as to the marriage records. What is also interesting is that none of these Hall folks show up in the 1870 US Census for Lowndes County even though Charlotte is living with her new husband, James. Even Eliza, who would be about 11, does not show up. Where are all these Halls? In the Cross Roads cemetery is also buried: Abram C. Hall, died Dec. 19, 1877, no birth date. William Hall, born Jan. 31, 1806, died Apr. 14, 1859 James E. Hall, born Apr. 5, 1846, died Jan. 5, 1852 It could be that William Hall was the husband of Charlotte and father of all those children. He could be the father of Laura who would have already been born when he died. Just a thought. Abram C. could be A. C. and possibly A. Hall of the Alabama 6th.
