PRUITT, McCormick (Private, Company M, 6th Alabama Infantry Regiment) McCormick Pruitt was born on June 8, 1840 in Lowndes County, Alabama; died in June 15, 1911 in Birmingham Jefferson County Alabama and is buried in Elmwood Cemetery Birmingham Alabama. He was the son of Malinda Posey and Lawrence M. Pruitt. McCormick married December 7, 1871 in Lowndes County Alabama to Patricia Powell born about 1845. Children of McCormick and Malinda are: 1st) Allen Pruitt born about 1872 in Lowndes County Alabama. 2nd) Elishu Posey Pruitt born about 1877 in Lowndes County Alabama. Elishu married September 28, 1899 in Lowndes County Alabama to Anna Louisa Ellis. 3rd) Pattie Pruitt born about 1879. 4th) Dr. Enoch L. Pruitt born September 24, 1884 in Lowndes County Alabama; died unknown but buried at Payne Cemetery, Sandy Ridge Lowndes County Alabama. Enoch married October 9, 1907 in Lowndes County Alabama to Virginia L. Russell. McCormick joined the Hayneville Guards, a militia unit, in 1859, and was enrolled for Confederate service on 17 April, 1861 in the Captain Willingham's old Company E, 6th Alabama Infantry Regiment that later became Company M. He was wounded at Chancellorsville on 3 May, 1863 and taken to General Hospital No. 18, where he had his right arm amputated. From that summer of 1863 until the end of the war, McCormick was placed on the rolls of the Invalid Corps and spent the remainder on various duty, but mainly at home in Lowndes County.
