He was the son of Elizabeth W. Armstrong and Allen Powell. Marcus married September 6, 1866 in Lowndes County Alabama to Mary L. Huffman born November 24, 1845; died December 3, 1914 and buried at Steep Creek Cemetery, Lowndes County Alabama. Marcus and Mary had one son: Howard S. Powell born December 6, 1869 in Lowndes County Alabama; died September 13, 1939 and is buried at Steep Creek Cemetery, Lowndes County Alabama.
