From the Lowndes Court Records in Minutes Probate Court, Book K, page 10, dated Sept 1856. "Shows that the heirs at law of said decd now surviving, Jane, Redin Canterberry, residing in said county, Celia Smith wife of Geo Smith, Amanda, wife of Jennings, Paralee Cates wife Ensley Cates, Caroline Canterberry, all children of decd. living in said County, except Smith & wife & Jennings & wife who petitioner is informed reside in Butler County, all of whom are over 21 years of age.". >From "Alabama Records, Volume 214, Lowndes County", by Gandrud. minute Book C, February Term 1838, page 74. A petition to sell the land of Samuel Canterberry dec'd. There are 7 heirs, viz: John, Mariah, (who are of age ) and Jane, Reddin, Selia, Amanda and Paralee, all minors. It would appear that John and Mariah died sometimes before the entry of 1856. I have no more information on them or Jane. I do not have a daughter named Mary Ann but if Samuel had such a named daughter she must have died before February 1838. I would like to know how the initial J. as in Samuel J was determined. BETH
