    1. [ALLOWNDE] John Getson Traylor Diary
    2. Charlene P
    3. Hi Fred, Thanks for the fast response. So Sorry to hear that Mrs. Traylor passed away last year. The diary I am referring to is that of John Getson Traylor, who was Green Rives' overseer in Collirene, AL in the late 1830s. In a letter to my mother-in-law, Jewell Patton, dated 3 Feb., 1979, Mrs. Rosa Traylor writes, "The John Getson Traylor (Green Rives' overseer) mentioned [in the Rives family history] on pp. 13, 254, and other passages--was my husband's great uncle. I have a copy of the diary he kept from 1834-1847. We have excerpts of it in the book we wrote, "Collirene, The Green Hill." (From 1834-1840 he was overseer for Green Rives' plantations at Collirene.) He spelled just like a word sounded." I hope a copy can be located. I remember reading it, and it was a fascinating document, detailing events of their daily lives, socializing, churchgoing, running of the plantation, etc. Would you mind e-mailing me privately to tell me how to contact her daughter? Thank you so much, Charlene Patton

    1. [ALLOWNDE] Rives/Traylor family in Collirene
    2. Charlene P
    3. Hi, I am new to the list. My husband is descended from a Rives family from Collirene in Lowndes County. The Rives came to the area from SC in the late 1830s. His gg-grandfather was Green Rives. Green had a brother named Robert Rives. What I am actually trying to find is a copy of a diary kept by an overseer for the Rives family. His last name was Traylor. He kept his diary in the late 1830s. My mother-in-law had a copy of it; unfortunately, she is quite elderly and in ill health and cannot help us locate her copy. I believe she received it from a lady named Rosa Traylor in Collirene in about 1979. Does anyone know anything about this family or the diary? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Charlene Patton

My maternal grandfather, William Fieldon Wigginton was born alabama,1884, M. Allie Flowers in Jensen, IT in June 1909, had 7 children. Believed to be son of Fieldon Wigginton , born 1822 alabama,M. Sarah Francis Harrell born 1828 Maury Co, TN. There could be another generation unaccounted for (so far) between Fieldon and Wm.F. You say HB & Nancy born in VA: is it possible they moved to Alabama at some point? My other side (Brickeys) started in Virginia, then to Kentucky, then to Indian Territory (mom dad and I migrated to California from Oklahoma in 1939. There are Flowers, Bennetts, maybe Kennedys or Kennadys, Wilsons, etc. Of William F. and Allie Wigginton's children there are four surviving sisters (mom isn't one of them). They know little of their history; grandmother wouldn't talk. I would appreciate any info you can provide that might lead to this link. since most of the time there were no birth certificates or death certificates it is very difficult. I didn't have birth certificate til dad got his at age 70 and decided since I was 40 it was high time for me too. I am now 70 and still trying to find pieces of the puzzle. peace and blessings.

    2. For James O. King - Bethel Baptist Church was near Pintlala on what is now U.S. Hwy 231. It was the second Baptist church organized in Montgomery County. If anyone anywhere has any records of the Shoals of Catoma church, it will be the Special Collection at Samford University in Birmingham. They have microfilmed church records for years. They also have (indexed) a complete run of the Alabama Baptist/Southwest Baptist that was and is published by the Baptists in Alabama. Methodist records are kept at Huntingdon College, Montgomery, in their special collection. I hope this helps. Sincerely, Billie Capell, Montgomery

    2. Catoma Creek is in Montgomery County. It flows into the Alabama River, and stretches east and south across the County. There was a community of Catoma, as well as a Post Office and school and church there at one time, west of the City of Montgomery.
