Hi:- Has anyone received a "2002" Lowndes Cnty Historical Society Newsletter copy, yet ? Sharon/Connecticut
All I have are transcriptions for the white residents of Lowndes County. If your ancestors were African-American, then I cannot help. I the marriage records is: William T. McFerrin who married E. E. Bruner on oct. 4, 1872, married by John A. Waller, MG, bond co-signed by A. V. Stabler, in marriage Book A, page 350. I checked the 1880 Census (remember I only have whites) and did not find them. William T. McFerrin was born December 17, 1853, son of John R. McFerrin and his wife, Sarah E. Couey. William died October 2, 1886 and is buried in the Hopewell Cemetery, Palmyra, Lowndes County, as are his parents. I did not find William's wife. I have no information on E. E. Bruner. I looked to see if there was a second marriage for her in Lowndes but did not find one. I am researching my wife's grandmother, Dottie Evelyn McFERRIN, born 4 AUG 1887 in Hayneville. Her parents (all I have are names) were William McFERRIN and Emma BRUNER. -------------------------------------------------- Malcolm M. My father knew him and recently while we were looking around the cemetery he told me this man was blind and a piano tuner. The headstone says: B. Rogers Smith born Feb 27, 1905, died Dec 10, 1997. His wife shares a common headstone: Mildred P. Smith, born Dec 8 1912, died May 5, 1998. The tombstone states their marriage date as "Dec 10, 1932". Their graves are located in a new area of the cemetery only recently opened in the last five years. --Joey Sanders jsanders@masterimage.net

Carolyn: My Elizabeth Phillips and Pascal Harrison also came from Greene County GA to AL. Elizabeth Phillips' mother was named Jane WALKER; Jane Walker married Col. Joseph PHILLIPS in GA about 1789; she died around 1804 (when youngest son, James Ray was born). Note the name "Albert," which was the name of Elizabeth Phillips and Pascal Harrison's oldest son (b.GA ca.1809). Do you suppose these families are related and that Jane HARRISON Walker was named for Jane Walker Phillips? But where did the HARRISON name come from? Of course Elizabeth Phillips and Pascal Harrison named their oldest daughter (my ancestor) Jane Phillips HARRISON (which accords with the naming pattern of oldest daughter being named for maternal grandmother).
