Sampson Davis, Jr. is the father of twins, David & William Davis. I do not have any pictures other than 2 that were sent to me a few years by another Davis researcher. One was of Joel Dawson Davis with grandsons, Perry Almond Davis, Glen D. Davis & Jack Franklin Davis in front of the old Davis home in Highland Home. Years ago my mother-in-law and I visited one of her cousins who lived in the area where the Davis had lived and it was beautiful with rolling hills. Roween still lived in one of the Davis's old homes. I can't remember which Davis was her father but he had died but her mother was still living. At that time (it was about 25 years ago0 I didn't know anything about genealogy and didn't ask any questions. I'm sure she had many old pictures and an old Bible that she mentioned to my Mother-in-law. Would you like for me to send you an attachment of the Descendants of Sampson Davis? Please let me know. I can understand where you thought David was a twin of Sampson by the way the note was written. But, from the 1850 US Census, Lowndes Co., it is clear that David and William are twins. The census on page 126 B, family #368 is: Davis, Sampson, age 68, male, a planter, value rel estate $600, born in NC Davis, Rebecca, age 60, female, born in NC Davis, David, age 21, male, a planter, born in NC Davis, William, age 21, male, a planter born in NC, attended school within the last year Davis, Ephraim, age 18, male, a planter, born in NC, attended school within the last year By the 1860 US Census, David was married to Eliza and had 4 children. William had married Unity Royal on Mar. 7, 1851, Montgomery Co marriage books, and they also had 4 children in the 1860 US Census. Hope this helps

I have, mistakenly, been thinking that Sampson, Jr. was his father!! Glad to get this cleared up. I guess you knew that there was a Sampson, Sr.? I found information one Sunday afternoon in our local library(N.C. Heritage book), about Sampson Davis, Sr.. Seems they came from Bladen County, N.C. around Elizabethtown, then headed to Highland Home via the Federal Road. Rebecca Hester is mentioned, and other info. I went into my Geneology drawer yesterday to read and review this info. Do you have access to any pictures of David Davis, the father of Joel Dawson Davis(my grandfather)? Or his brother, William. My daughter and I found the tombstone of William Davis in the Confederate Cemetery in Newnan, Ga. Hoping to get to Hope Hull in March and usually visit all the family cemeteries. Want to bring my grandsons, Davis and Corey Henry, with me this summer to show them where their ancestors are buried. Any other Davis history will be appreciated. There are lots of Davis's here in Ellijay...and they are listed in the N.C. heritage book. Sincerely, June Davis Handte

My Thomas Kelly Armstrong was in Manak in 1890's. He was married to Dora. I found no death record for him, but some badly abused and mostly illegible probate records for Dora. My Tom appears to have "brokered" marriages for three Irish nieces including my great grandmother. Family story is that he was either postmaster at Manak, or an overseer of some significant enterprise. All is fuzzy on how he got there. The Loundes county 1850 census shows an Armstrong Family in the county with a 12 year old son named Thomas, but all traces of then disappear before 1860. I found a clippong about a writ of execution (debt collection) against Tom Armstrong in the 1850's but no supporting judgment of anything to tie it together except the disappearance. There is an alabama appelate court opinion In re Rambo that makes a reference to a Loundes county Armstrong in the 1950's it involved an accounting for the use of a slave. I do not have the citation. I wish that I had hard information!

The land for the church was donated by Jesse M. Armstrong and was located where the Damascus Baptist Church now stands Other Armstrong members were: John C. Armstrong and wife, Mary; William Armstrong and wife Mary. The Church was there from 1837-1855. At this time the Armstrongs were living in Butler County not Montgomery or Lowndes County. Maximillian is shown as between 50 & 60 years old in the 1830 Butler County Census Records and between 50 & 60 in the 1840 Records. Maybe the census were not taken in the same month each time, he could have just turned 50 in the 1830 record and was almost 60 in the 1840 records. I don't find a Thomas Armstrong connected to his family. Paying taxes in Butler County in 1856 were James W. Armstrong Prec. 3, Mac Armstrong Prec. 4, Jesse M. Armstrong Prec. 6 & J.W.
