Following is a transcription of that document: TRANSCRIPT OF 1815 GUARDIANSHIP DOCUMENT: Probate Records: Document of Guardianship - Josiah Todd Document: Guardianship Document Date: 01 Dec 1815 Site: Edgefield Dist., SC Transcription: I do hereby certify that JOSIAH TODD was appointed guardian to LEWIS TODD, PATSY TODD, and WILLABY TODD (minors) and hath given bond and security as the law directs guardian at my office this 1st day of Dec., 1815, and on this 15th district, the said JOSIAH TODD was chosen guardian by JAMES and PENELOPY TODD, minors over fourteen years old. (Signed) Jn. Timhery, J. E. D. Nancy was born about 1783, likely in Bertie Co., NC; she married Josiah 10 December 1798 in Bertie Co., NC; she died about 1813 in Edgefield Dist., SC, likely after the birth of her youngest child, Willoughby. About 1814 or 1815 Josiah married Zilpha Thomas and produced 10 more children with her. Nancy's children are not listed by name in Josiah's will, but they did exist. Willoughby was my great-great grandfather, and Josiah was his father. Willoughby would have been about 40 years old when Josiah died. Thanks so much for the URL for Josiah's will! Thanks, too, for your reply.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/JS.2ADE/713.1.1.2.1 Message Board Post: Barbara - I did not have anything in my database on Todds so went digging. I am a stickler for sources so bear with me. So far, I did not find the connection between Willoughby Todd and Josiah. Josiah left a will that named children Elizabeth Grice, Thomas Todd, Willis Todd, Mary Armer (Armour), Nancy Gramblin(g), Altha Todd, John Todd, Hardy Todd, Lucinda Todd & Marina Todd. He named his wife, Zilpha, and did state that his estate, at least part of it, was to be "equally divided among all my children that is to my including my children of my first with them of my last wife..." So, I am guessing Willoughby was from a first wife because he was born in about 1813 and Zilpha would have been 13 that year, not unheard of, but not likely. What information do you have that gives Willoughby a son of Josiah? Second, so far no connection to McQueens, though Rae is the 'expert' there as she is a descendent, I am not. The will can be found at http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/al/lowndes/wills/jtodd.txt

The probate papers stated that he and Elizabeth McQueen were residents of Alabama. Evidently Susan went back to Lowndes County after her father's death. The way the probate papers read, she was in LA at the time of his death.

After Susan's father, Willis died in LA in the 1850's, Susan went back to Lowndes County, AL to live with her sister, Elizabeth McQueen. Bible records also verified they were sisters. Elizabeth is 50 and Susan is 25. Elizabeth was born in SC and Susan in AL. A couple of pages after that is Thomas Sawyer, age 57, also born in SC and his wife, Margaret Johnston who were married on May 16, 1832, marriage records book 1, page 45, married by A. Hall, JP. It makes me wonder about Susan and Elizabeth being sisters. What evidence do you have that Susan is a sister and not a niece? I found no marriage record in Lowndes County for Susan. There was a Sallie M. who married William Wiley, the marriage bond being signed by Thomas J. Sawyer. Thomas had a daughter in the 1860 US Census named Sarah and Sallie was a common nickname for Sarah. I checked the 1870 US census and my limited cemetery listings and did not find Susan Sawyer. Sorry

I descend from the following from Lowndes Co., AL: Josiah Todd > Willoughby Todd > Robert MCQUEEN Todd. Willoughby Todd married Eliza E. (maiden name unknown) after his first wife, Harriet Thomas, died in 1835. The marriage to Eliza likely took place in 1836. Willoughby and Eliza had 8 or 9 children. Their youngest son, Robert MCQUEEN Todd, was my maternal great grandfather. Robert was born 15 April 1853 in either Dallas or Lowndes Co., AL. I believe that Eliza's maiden name might have been MCQUEEN. I have very little information about her other than the fact that she must have been born about 1813 in SC, and she died 15 May 1870. Do either of you have any information about any possible links between the TODDs and MCQUEENs? I would be grateful for any help you can give me. Thanks.

I am going to post what I have on cemeteries by Township and Range in the Lowndes County Archives in a day or two. Calhoun is in Range 15E, Townships 12 & 13. Sections in Township 12 are 3 & 4 and Sections 33 & 34 for Township 13. But, there are cemeteries not far from Calhoun in other sections. Unfortunatley, at the moment I do not have listings for the obvious cemeteries there. I know that Jacob Cotrell Julian had at least 3 wives, E. C, born abt. 1830, Allis Jane McQueen, and Rachel Ann McQueen, Allis' sister. You have this, no doubt. So, you must be looking for E. C. Julian and their children: E. A., M. J. and and infant, born in 1860 (from the 1860 US Census). Is this correct?
