I show a Johnson/Johnston Bullock, son of Charles and Elizabeth Johnston/Johnson Bullock, b 1777. He married Mary Davis of Marion Dist, SC in 1800. Charles Bullock wrote his will in 1823, in which he left property "to the heirs of my son, Johnson", so it is assumed Johnson died prior to 1823. In 1836, Thomas, Elias, and Josiah Bullock of Lowndes Co, ALA, and Ballard Bullock of Muskogee, GA, appoint Charles Bullock (their brother) of Butler Co, Ala as their attorney to sell the land bequeathed them by their grandfather. There is a Charles Bullock on the 1850 Lowndes Co census, with his wife, Nancy, and 10 children. It is believed Ballard may have migrated to Ouchita Parish, LA. I am looking for any information on any of these brothers, and perhaps, unnamed sisters, when and where their parents died. Thomas Bullock Elias Bullock, b about 1805 Josiah Bullock Charles Bullock, b about 1810, married Nancy Ballard Bullock, perhaps spelled Blalock or Balack Bullock Thanks Loretta
Does anyone know of any historical research on slavery and agriculture (or plantations) specifically in Lowndes County (or that part of Montgomery County that became Lowndes)? I'm interested in the period from about 1819 to 1835. I'd like to know if there were other major crops besides cotton in the county and how slaves were employed and treated. I'm not interested in general works about plantations and slavery. I'm looking for specific info on Lowndes County. Members of my HEARNE line appear to have all settled near one another (in what is now southeastern Lowndes County) and I'm also trying to find out if they could have operated their separate holdings as a single plantation unit. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Ralph Poore 3440 S.
