Dear Allmachers around the world, this list has been very quiet last year (to say the least) - but I want to use it now to wish you a Merry Christmas and all the best for the New Year! If you want to see a few recent pictures of the St.Gallen Seelentags - take a look at http://homepage.swissonline.ch/seelentag/2004/ With love from St.Gallen - Wolf and Family __________________ Wolf Seelentag, Ph.D. Reherstr. 19 CH - 9016 St.Gallen +41 (0) 71 - 288 51 21 [email protected]

Dear Family and Friends, I'm late again - I'm sorry. To compensate for this, at least I have a few very recent (last Christmas and New Year) photographs to offer: http://homepage.swissonline.ch/seelentag/2003/ The St.Gallen Seelentags wish you all the best for the remainder of the New Year! Dear Clara, welcome to the "club" ! I have subscribed you to our Allmacher mailinglist, and am forwarding your mail to the list. Sorry for being a bit short this time: we have just arrived home from a holiday in Scotland - and there are about 200 mails waiting to be answered (apart from several 100 spam messages already deleted). You can see a few pictures of my family on http://www.seelentags.de/2002/ Laura has finished her M.Sc. (graduation ceremony still outstanding - in Nov) and we picked her up, again combining this with a short holiday. Laura was a bit sad to leave Edinburgh, which she liked very much - but on the other hand, she was also looking forward to getting home again. Welcome to the list Karla.. My sister Sharon (Davis) Lantz and myself are Allmacher's on our mothers side, Edna (Allmacher) Davis, who was the granddaughter of Heinrich Allmacher emigrating from Bremen 10 Nov 1865 on ship Stella, age 18. Heinrich married Margarethe Haid. Heinrich and Margarethe had 3 sons (Paul Henry., Wilhelm and John Henry).. Paul married Laura Smith. Edna, our mother, and Gladys, our aunt who raised us, were 2 of their 10 children.... Before we found Wolf we knew very little about the Allmacher history prior to America. I personally wasn't aware of anyone past our Grandfather Paul... Thanks to Wolf, we have been able to fill in many of the gaps. Best Regards, Martin Davis
Dear Allmacher families and relatives worldwide, some of you are still waiting for a response from me - I apologise for my slow reaction, but the second half of this year has been rather hectic, both at work and at home. So let me give just a quick update on the St.Gallen Seelentags. I'm still working at Kantonsspital, Mareile is getting increasingly involved in the China Wushu Institute (giving Qigong courses), Roland is now studying geography in his third term at Zuerich University - so the main news is Laura's "emigration" to Scotland. We helped her move, and combined this with a short holiday - most pictures on http://www.seelentags.de/2002/ were taken during this holiday. We all wish you and your family a blessed Christmas, and all the best, especially health for the new year - Wolf and Family __________________ Wolf Seelentag, Ph.D. Reherstr. 19 CH - 9016 St.Gallen +41 (0) 71 - 288 51 21 [email protected]

As others on the list might also be confused about my e-mail addresses (I have about 20 for different purposes) I'm responding to the list - I hope you don't mind. Yes - [email protected] is still a valid address: my work address (kssg stands for Kantons-Spital St.Gallen). If you have mailed there during the last three weeks, the mail should still sit in my inbox: I have been on holiday and returned only Friday late night. I had used this address also for private mails until end of Dec 2001 as I didn't have private internet access until then. Nowadays I would prefer to receive private mails at home: [email protected] which will end up directly in my inbox. An alternative would be [email protected] (additional S after seelentag!) which I'm using on many web pages: it's just forwarding to my swissonline address, which normally should not delay things. The advantage of this address is that I will keep it "forever" (whatever that means with the internet), whilst the swissonline address will be invalid should I change provider (and there are a few things I don't like with swissonline). I had received a mail from Donna late July about her trip to Germany, and have responded to that (hope it got through - at least it didn't bounce). There is still a long mail from Sharon (mid August) waiting for a response. I apologize for the delay; I had a busy time at the hospital for several months, plus time spent to prepare the re-organisation of my professional society (http://www.sgsmp.ch) of which I am the president at the moment, plus all sorts of organisational issues in connection with our daughter Laura's "emigration" to Scottland. Which brings me back to our holiday. Laura has taken up her M.Sc. Course "Information Management" at the Queen Margaret University College in Edinburgh a couple of weeks ago. We "gave her a lift" with her belongings, and have combined that with a holiday, touring a part of Scottland we had not explored before: I am planning to put a few photographs online, once the films are developed (and I find the time to do that). Laura seems to have settled in and feel quite comfortable: we had visited her another day on the way back, as the ferry was departing from Edinburgh again. We have been very lucky with the weather - only about 2 hours of rain in over 2 weeks, and much more sunshine than our son Roland had back at home (house and dog sitting, plus learning for the upcoming exams in a week's time). For the time being I send you and all others on the list my best regards - Wolf PS on organisational matters: 1. I have corrected Denton's address to [email protected] and hope he gets our mails again now. 2. I'm still at a loss with [email protected] [email protected] Both have been bouncing for a while now, and I can't find amongst my notes, whom they belonged to.

Hi Everyone: I am the newest member signed up by Dr. Wolf Seelentag. My name is Donna Murray and I am the granddaughter of Paul Henry Allmacher. I am very excited to be able to speak to you via e-mail. My husband and I are planning a trip to Germany in September and we are very excited to be able to plant our feet on our forefather's homeland. We are interested in staying a few days in the Mozel area and I was wondering if anyone has heard of a place called House Brandenburg #065425010. It was recommended on the internet and we were thinking of staying there. Could someone check this for me? I would appreciate it. We will be traveling with our dear friends Peggy and Tom Furnari. If someone could write back with places that they think is worthwhile for us to see and visit, we would also appreciate the information. I would love to meet with any Allmacher and buy them a drink, lunch or dinner. I don't want to inconvenience anyone and I realize that time is valued, but I would love to come home and say I meet some of my relatives. My brother's son, Aaron, will be studying for a year in Friedberg, and is very excited to be spending his school year studying in Germany. We plan on visiting him while we are there. Our plans are tentatively to spend 4 days in the Mozel area, 4 days in the Black Forest and 4 days in Munich. We are renting a car, but we were wondering if it will be easy to drive over in Germany. Does anyone think we should do a train instead? We also thought we should look into renting homes via the internet as opposed to hotels. Any thoughts? I would appreciate any helpful hints and ideas and I am so very excited about visiting Germany. We will be in Germany Sept 24th through October 8th. I would love to hear from my distant cousins. Thank you for inviting me to be on this web page. Love to all my cousins, Donna Murray
Dear "Cousins", I'm sorry for being so quiet recently - I just had many other obligations keeping me busy: due to this I haven't made any progress on my Allmacher research myself - but some of you have sent me data to "feed" my computer; thank you very much! We also had a few new subscribers - so despite some leaving the list (or at least their addresses becoming invalid) there are now ten of us. Sharon Lantz and I have been in touch via "snail mail" for a while - now she also has e-mail, and has briefly introduced herself to the list already. Would some of you like to follow her example? My connection to Allmacher is through my wife, Mareile, whom you'll find on http://www.genealogy.net/privat/seelentag/seel1947.htm The connection is through her grandfather Hermann Schmidts (1881-1949) who is mentioned on the above page. From there on it's Friedrich Schmidts (1850-1913) married to Julia Mueller (born 1858) Mueller Robert (born 1820) married to Juliana Sackermann (born 1829) Engelbert Sackermann (1804-1891) married to Carolina Mueller (1804-1895) Johann Friedrich Mueller (born 1775) married to Philippina Elisabetha Allmacher (born 1778) Johann Friedrich Allmacher (1736-1788) married to his cousin Juliana Elisabetha Allmacher (born 1737) and we will have to go a few generations further back to find the actual link to most of you ;-). Two addresses bouncing recently are [email protected] (Denton Garner) [email protected] (can't connect a name to this) Does any of this ring a bell? If yes - would you have updated addresses, or know the name behind "rsatorre"? Any help is appreciated. Would be nice if the list could become a bit more active, to actually share family information as well as what some of us are doing (or being stuck with) regards Almacher genealogy of their own branch. Best regards for now - Wolf __________________ Wolf Seelentag, Ph.D. Reherstr. 19 CH - 9016 St.Gallen +41 (0) 71 - 288 51 21 [email protected]
My name is Sharon Lantz, granddaughter of Paul Henry Allmacher, son of Heinrich Allmacher who emigrated to Ameerica. I was born in 1936, so you guessed it I am retired after 38 1/2 years as a civil servant with the State of Michgan. I started out my career as a clerk tpist and ended it as the Secretary/Administrative Assistant to the Chief Justice, Michigan Tax Tribunal. My husband, Lyle Lantz, was an electrician, starting out in the wiring of homes, etc., progressed to maintenance of elevators and escalators for Otis Elevator Co. and wound up his career building and wiring control panels for Consumers Power Company substations. Since 1993, right after retiring, we winter in the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas, US. Lyle's family emigrated to the US from the Palatine area of Germany.
Dear "Allmachers" worldwide, there have not been any genealogical news recently - but this list is also meant to keep in touch generally - let me begin: What are the news from St.Gallen? The children have experienced the major events last year. Roland had finished school in autumn 2000 and then worked (local supermarket) a few months to earn some pocket money for his US journey. In March 2001 he went to Boston for 3 months to attend a language school. He stayed with a family outside Boston - so he had to travel a fair amount, but really felt at home with the family. Late June / early July he then spent 2 weeks in New York, which obviously included a visit to the World Trade Center: we just don't want to imagine what could have happened in case the terrorists had planned their attack a couple of months earlier! Obviously he spent more pocket money as he had - so back in Switzerland he was working again (post office, beginning at 5 am) - before he started studying geography at Zuerich University in October. Though it's quite difficult to find reasonable accomodation in Zuerich, Mareile finally found a nice, though small, one-bedroom flat in the outskirts, but only a minute to walk to the tramway, bringing him to the University within about 15 min. Like Laura had done, he usually visits us on weekends - so Mareile can look after his dirty washing ;-). "As Laura had done" indicates that she's not doing that any longer: she has finished her course in Chur after 3 years (she's now an "Information and Documentation Specialist") - with the best grading of the entire course! As she was doing her diploma work at the St.Gallen State Library, she returned home before she actually finished: in October we were glad to have a large car, as some of her furniture went straight from Chur to Zuerich, i.e. Roland's flat. She's "taking a rest" at the moment (diploma celebration was only Saturday, Dec. 8th). In January she'll start working in Zuerich (but stay with us) at Credit Suisse, one of the large Swiss banks, to conduct internet research for them - until August. It's not finalised yet, but she then plans to continue her studies and do an M.Sc. in Information Management at Glasgow (Scotland) University. Let's go back two generations: my mother is still very active, though finding that, at the age of 81, she has to take some things a bit slower - which includes walking around the house: in spring she fell and broke her forearm - luckily when she visited my brother Ludwig in Berlin, so she wasn't on her own as would have been the case in Augsburg. Healing took somewhat longer than hoped - but in the meantime she seems to be back to normal. She'll be in Berlin again for Christmas, and then come to St.Gallen on 27 Dec for a week or so. That will give us finally a chance to discuss her anti-abortion web page more effectively: <http://www.lebensfreunde.de/> (sorry - all in German - but you'll see a picture of her, when looking for "Meinungen - Seelentag"). BTW - the cute little girl on the start page is Laura - but a few years back ;-). Nora (<http://www.genealogienetz.de/privat/seelentag/nora.jpg>) also had some surgery: a fairly large mass had to be removed from her hindleg a couple of weeks ago; it turned out to be benign - but healing will still take a while - which doesn't seem to bother her at all. Despite her age (almost 10) she enjoys the present weather (some snow and emperatures as low as minus 15° Celsius = about 5° F) and chases around whenever allowed (we have to be a bit careful near roads, as she would chase foxes and martens, which we see here at the edge of the city quite freqently, instead of watching the traffic). Mareile still is impeded by her knee problems and has given up her TaiChi/Qigong - at least for the time being being, to give her knees a rest. She had been teaching part time at a TaiChi Institute, and hopes to resume that later. Time was another reason for this decision: obviously the two kids moving from an to St.Gallen, finding a place for Roland, and a new tenant for Laura's flat in Chur was quite time consuming. So we had only a short holiday in May, when Mareile and myself visited Roland for 10 days in Boston; Laura had visited him earlier for about two weeks. We all enjoyed the trip and the sights of Boston. Just the return trip was "a bit heavy" - literally: Roland being into HipHop (and planning a "second career" as disc jockey) he frequently had visited all sorts of vinyl shops, and in the end each of us had 2 suitcases (i.e. 8 alltogether) topped up to the weight limit to take home. Finally me - not too much to report: the hospital keeps me busy (as usual) - so do my genealogy webpages (as usual). I have been to a few conferences, including one in Belfast, travelling on 11 Sep and seeing the attacs on WTC when changing planes at London-Heathrow; my luggage was lost in the turmoil - which is of course negligible compared to what other people suffered. In October I was elected for a second 2-year term as President of the Swiss Society of Radiation Biology and Medical Physics. In March we started treating prostate cancer with Iodine seeds at our clinic - the first center in Switzerland to do so, which resulted in some TV coverage, both regional and nationwide. More recently all computers (1400) were replaced, and we are planning a modernisation of the entire clinic, after more than 10 years in the present setting: this will take some 3 years and likely be my last major project at the hospital. We all send you our wishes for a Merry Christmas and all the best for the New Year ! Dear Sandra and others, thank you for the photograph of Gustav's brothers and family. I have sent it to Wilhelm in Eschweiler (assumed to be Will's grandson): he doesn't have any old photographs to compare it with, but remembers that one of his greatuncles (doesn't remember the name) had emigrated to USA - just another hint that we might be on the right track. I have place your photograph on http://www.seelentags.de/allmacher/wanted/gustav1868.htm and added the details about the children of Friedrich Allmacher (1818-1881) and Katharina Herten (1829-1910), Gustav's "potential parents". All 8 children were alive, when the mother died in 1910; in your description you mention "Heinrich's widow" - so the photograph must have been taken later. On the other hand Heinrich's daughters (as far as known to me) were then 15 and 18 years old - whilst the girl on the photograph is hardly 10, I guess. Could be a younger sister I'm not aware of yet, or someone completely different - or we have picked the wrong family alltogether. The youngest son was Edmund Josef (1875-1957): I have now also sent copies of your photographs to his grandson Edmund im Emmerich; as he is actively involved doing genealogy, he may have some old photographs, even if his grandfather is not depicted on "your" picture. (Deutsche Zusammenfassung am Ende der Mail) Dear Allmachers and Allmacher descendants, by now we are 7 subscribers on this list - we are beginning to take off ;-). I would like to take the opportunity to 1) briefly introtruce myself, and 2) say a few words about the list and how I feel we would make the best use of it. My name is Wolf Seelentag, born 1947 near Augsburg (Bavaria). I'm working as medical physicist at Kantonsspital St.Gallen (Switzerland): before starting here in 1982 I lived and studied in Berlin and London (UK), worked near Munich and in Zuerich. My wife Mareile is from the German Ruhr area (Hattingen) - and Allmacher are amongst her ancestors. If you want to see a picture of me - have a look at http://www.seelentags.de/ where you'll also find links to my other web projects. You'll find a description on how my surname came into existence on http://www.genealogienetz.de/privat/seelentag/seeltauf.htm I am collecting info on all descendants of Jacob "von Allenbach", who turned up in the Trarbach area (Moselle) during mid 16th century. So if you haven't been in touch with me directly so far (this applies to our two newest members, subscribing just a few hours ago) I would appreciate to get more information - to try to fit you into the puzzle ;-). I don't feel we should have too many rules on our list; as a matter of fact, I feel we shouldn't have any rules exceeding the general "netiquette". I would consider it a plus, however, if we all knew whom we are "talking" to, i.e. if all subscribers could post a short "biography" (as short as mine above, or longer if you wish). The only other point I would mention is the language: I know/assume that 5 of us live in USA, 1 in Germany, and me in Switzerland; consequently English is fine for the majority (it certainly is also fine with me); I am hoping, however, that we can attract more German subscribers as well - some might not be fluent in English, at least be hesitant to write in English, and may even have problems reading mails in English. I therefore hope that this list could be bi-lingual, at least at a later stage (once we hear that some subscribers have problems with English). This requires some patience with mails in a "foreign" language (a short abstract in the other language at the end of a might help here) - and if someone feels (s)he is missing important information due to the language - just let me know and I'll provide a (shortened) translation. Mit besten Gruessen - with best regards - Wolf -------------- Wolf W. Dear All, I have spent some time over the week-end "surfing" and looking for Allmacher mentions on the internet. Some of the more interesting pages I have linked to from http://www.seelentags.de/allmacher/links.htm This collection is more for my own use, rather than a public web page (no structure, topics and languages all mixed up) - but you may still find a few interesting pages ;-). A mention I have found on http://westchesterarchives.com/indexes/marr_a.html was "Allmacher. Gustave G.. 1921. 33532. A-0243 (4)." which says that a Gustav G. Allmacher got married in 1921 in Westchester (I assume the county in NY, not the city near Philadelphia): does this imply that it is a different Allmacher branch, or could it be the second marriage of Gustav (born 1867/69) which we assume to have taken place 1920/22 ? I leave it to the "cousins" on the right side of the Atlantic to follow this up ;-). Best regards - Wolf -------------- Wolf W. I have a photo of them if > you would like me to forward it to you. Let me know okay. Maybe someone > might reconize them. > Dear Sandra, I had another look at my database at home: "my" Gustav (the third mention for Gustav on http://www.seelentags.de/allmacher/emig-e.htm) also had brothers Heinrich, Joseph and Wilhelm (=Willi); whilst this (common first names and large families at this time) does not prove that we are talking about the same person, the photograph might help. Is the photograph labelled, i.e. do you know exactly, who's who on it ? Then the relative ages can estimated - and if they fit to the birth dates of the "Eschweiler" Allmacher line, this would be a strong indication. The four brothers (amongst others) were: Wilhelm Allmacher, born 1856 Heinrich Allmacher, born 1860 Joseph Allmacher, born 1864 Gustav Allmacher, born around 1868 For the first three I have exact dates and places; no exact details for Gustav (just family tradition that he existed) - which may be caused by him leaving the family and loosing contact. A person we should send the photpgraph to is also Georg Allmacher http://home.t-online.de/home/G.Allmacher/ as he's a great-grandson of Wilhelm (born 1856): he (or the family) might have a few old photographs to compare with yours. Best regards - Wolf PS: I'm sending this not to you directly, but the Allmacher mailing list, assuming that info of this kind may also be of interest to others interested in Allmacher genealogy. ---------------------- Wolf W.
