This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Allison, Ellison Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/hZ.2ADIB/1613.1.2.1 Message Board Post: Dear Charles, I have checked Leonard Allison Morrison's "History of the Alison or Allison Family in Europe and America" (published in 1893) and I did not find a Henry Allison, b. ca 1807, and married to a Cornelia. However, Morrison isn't completely reliable in his genealogy of Orange and Rockland Co., NY Allisons and Ellisons. Have you found Henry and Cornelia in the 1850 census in NYC? Do you know if Henry's descendants moved to Michigan in the 1800s? Morrison said that Henry B. Allison was the son of William Allison and Sarah Roe of Slate Hill in Orange Co., NY. Morrison said that William Allison died on Aug. 30, 1830. No information is given about Henry except a statement that "his descendants are in Michigan." Did you know that there is an ongoing Allison/Ellison DNA Project? The paternal ancestry charts of participants in the Allison/Ellison DNA Project are at this URL: http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~allisonellisondna/index.htm All of the participants in Group B on the DNA results chart trace their Ellison/Allison ancestors back to Lawrence's descendants who moved to Orange County and Rockland County in New York in the late 1600s and to Joseph Allison who was in Orange County by 1725. My brother is one of the participants of Group B. There are two groups in the DNA Project that trace their ancestry back to Scotland. They are Groups A and C. The DNA scores of those Allisons and Ellisons are very different from the Allisons in Group B, who are the descendants of Orange/Rockland County Allisons. The DNA scores seem to prove that our line has English origins and not Scots origins. We have our website available on the web to help all Allison/Ellison researchers find others who are researching the same Allison/Ellison line. The more participants who join the DNA Project, the more information there will be available and the easier it will be for all of us to find our long-lost cousins. Since you have the Allisn surname, you would be a very welcome new participant in the Allison/Ellison DNA Project. If you want more info about how an Allison male can join, I'll be glad to share that info with you. Through the use of DNA testing (genetic genealogy) we can learn whether your Allison line and mine are related. Please contact me privately for more information.
