Mary, I have the "Allison Connections" book by Della Pat Franklin, 1988. According to the book, Joseph Allison is the son of John Allison, Sr. & Martha Hamilton. John & Martha had 11 children, Joseph is the oldest of the 11 children. My Allison connections - John Allison, Jr. & Hamilton Allison, sons of John Allison, Sr. & Martha Hamilton and brothers to your husband's Joseph Allison. According to the book - Joseph Allison, born Oct, 1750, Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania. He was married 3 times; 1st wife, name unknown (they had one daughter) - 2nd wife, Jane Donaldson, born ca 1754, Ireland, died 11 Nov 1807, Orange Co., NC, buried Eno Cemetery near Hillsboro ( Joseph & Jane married 1775 & they had 9 children) - 3rd wife, married Betsy Maddin 19 Aug 1809, Orange Co., NC (they had 3 children). Shortly after the 3rd marriage, he moved to TN. First 2 children (sons) of Joseph & Betsy were born NC, third child, a daughter, was born Jackson Co., TN. Joseph first paid taxes in White Co., TN in 1816 on 497 acres of land & 6 blacks. In 1818, White Co., TN, Joseph paid taxes on 660 acres on Cane Creek. It was about this time that he moved to Smith Co., TN & lived near Gordonsville until his death in Aug. 1826. The Book has a copy of his Will that is recorded in Smith Co., TN & names his 13 children with additional info on 8 of the children. Let me know what info you need as I don't know what info you have. Dear Geraldine, I'm the co-ordinator of the Allison/Ellison Y-Chromosome DNA Project. The DNA Project Results webpage can be found at http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~allisonellisondna/index.htm There are two participants who trace their ancestry back to Joh Allison and his son, Hamilton Allison. Participant # 19820 is in Group C. Participant # 41174 is at the end of the list of nearly 60 participants because he hasn't received his DNA test results yet. We are waiting to learn if his DNA score matches # 19820 in Group C. The members of Group C all have similar DNA test scores and several have traced their ancestry back to John Ellison/Ellyson/Allison who migrated to America from Windyedge Farm in Lanarkshire, Scotland in the early 1600s. Others in Group C trace their Allison ancestry back to Ireland. Since the DNA scores of all these participants are similar, it seems likely that some of the Scot Allisons migrated to Ireland before moving to America. If you have a living male relative who HAS the ALLISON surname, he would be a very welcome new participant in the Allison/Ellison Y-Chromosome DNA Project. Since you descend from a brother of Hamilton Allison, your male Allison relative's DNA score would add valuable new information to our surname DNA project. If you are interested in additional information about how to join, costs, etc., please contact me privately. Mary, Participant #19820 is my 2nd cousin. Ray's Dad & my Grandma Nash are brother & sister. Since Grandma Nash, Dollie (Allison) Nash, is the Allison, I don't have any male Allison's to participate in the DNA testing. Actually, I have two lines from John Allison, Sr. Both Grandma & Grandpa Nash (Charlie Bonnell & Dollie (Allison) Nash) descend from sons of John Allison, Sr. - John Allison, Jr. & Hamilton Allison Dollie Allison's line - 1. John Allison, Sr. & Martha Hamilton 2. Hamilton Allison & Elizabeth "Betsy" Stewart 3. John Allison & Nancy ?? 4. Joseph Harra Allison & Elvira Clementine Ellis 5.
