Hi Joe, Have you found a living male descendant of your Allison ancestors who HAS the ALLISON surname? If so, you may want to contact him and tell him about the Allison/Ellison DNA Project and encourage him to become a participant. We now have over 70 participants in our DNA Project and the DNA test results could show that your male ALLISON relative matches one or more current particpants. When a match occurs, then the participants share their genealogical research and learn more about their roots. I know that the cost of the test is sometimes a detriment to a potential participant deciding to order the 25 or 37 marker tests , which are the most useful tests in proving a genetic relationship to another male with the same surname. What some family lines are doing is recruiting other cousins to help pay for the test, which encourages the male who HAS the ALLISON or ELLISON surname to order a DNA test kit. If you want more info about costs, how to order a DNA test kit , etc., please contact me privately. Dear Geraldine, I'm the co-ordinator of the Allison/Ellison Y-Chromosome DNA Project. The DNA Project Results webpage can be found at http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~allisonellisondna/index.htm There are two participants who trace their ancestry back to Joh Allison and his son, Hamilton Allison. Participant # 19820 is in Group C. Participant # 41174 is at the end of the list of nearly 60 participants because he hasn't received his DNA test results yet. We are waiting to learn if his DNA score matches # 19820 in Group C. The members of Group C all have similar DNA test scores and several have traced their ancestry back to John Ellison/Ellyson/Allison who migrated to America from Windyedge Farm in Lanarkshire, Scotland in the early 1600s. Others in Group C trace their Allison ancestry back to Ireland. Since the DNA scores of all these participants are similar, it seems likely that some of the Scot Allisons migrated to Ireland before moving to America. If you have a living male relative who HAS the ALLISON surname, he would be a very welcome new participant in the Allison/Ellison Y-Chromosome DNA Project. Since you descend from a brother of Hamilton Allison, your male Allison relative's DNA score would add valuable new information to our surname DNA project. If you are interested in additional information about how to join, costs, etc., please contact me privately. So excited to see your message, I believe we can help each other fill in some gaps. Your great grandfather Willie Allison I believe is the half brother of my great grandfather and his brothers. Sarah Elizabeth Smith was a second or third cousin of her husband Robert Louis or Lewis Snith. Maybe A Smith was a Smith? Anyway Sarah and Robert had left Missouri with there three young sons and got as far as Wagon Mound, which is in New Mexico, but had not yet become a state. There wagon broke and he was unable to fix it. He left Sarah and the boys and told her he would return for them when he could. He never contacted her and 8 or 10 years passed before he returned. By then Sarah had married "Mr" Allison, assuming Robert was dead. Mr Allison and Sarah had a son they named Willie. She stayed with Mr Allison until his death and then remarried Robert. Sarah and Robert had three sons Jackson Leroy my greatgrandfather, Phillip and Bert. Jackson Leroy born June 6 1877 in Arkansas, Bert died in a barroom brawl and Phillip J. born Dec 13, 1884 in Missouri. I did not have a birth date for Willie we estimated around 1898. He was considerably younger than her first sons. 1895 would fit in the time frame and since you have the birthdate as March 15 1895 you probably had access to info I don't have. Phillip the brother you are looking for married Ida Hendricks I do not have a wedding date but I do have three children listed for them. Della Mae or Mary, Gertha "Gertie, and Iva Lee "Bobbie". Della married Ben Runnels, also in my family line and Gertie married Ernest McCorkle. The wife I have for Willie is Frances Boggs, is that who you have? Frances Boggs is the sister of Thomas Boggs. He was married to Ina Elizabeth Kitchens the sister of my grandfather George Washington Kitchens. Grandpa Kitchens married Lillie Smith who is the daughter of Jackson Leroy Smith. Willies oldest half brother. Please tell me these names are the ones you are looking for!! We have wondered who Willies dad is for over 30 years!! I have a picture of Phillip and some of his kids and a letter from Gertie. Let me know if we are looking for the same roots and I will send you what I have for what you have!!
