I have: James Monroe Allison b. 10 Feb l907 d. 4 Nov 1988, m. Lois Dooley 21July 1928. Don't think I have their children, but can get them, if you are interested.
I've "rescued" an old photograph of John ALLISON which was taken at the Archer and McCleary Studio in Pleasant City, Ohio. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1870's or 1880's with John likely in his teens or early 20's at the time it was taken. Based on limited research, I believe that this may be a photograph of John H. ALLISON b. 1861 in Monroe, OH, the son of William C. & Temperance ALLISON. I'm hoping to locate someone from this ALLISON Family so that the photograph can be returned to their care. If you are a member of this family, or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

There are now over 70 participants and you may find that a current participant's DNA score will match the DNA score of a male ALLISON relative of yours. When a match occurs on the 25 or 37 marker tests, you have good evidence that the two men share a common ancestor and they can share genealogical research and both learn more about their Allison origins. The Allison/Ellison DNA project was designed to help us break down some of those "brick walls" and discover some new cousins with whom we can share genealogical research. Our Allison/Ellison DNA Project Results webpage is online. The URL is: http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~allisonellisondna/index.htm If you want more information, please contact me privately. The paternal ancestry charts of participants in the Allison/Ellison Y-chromosome DNA Project are at this URL: http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~allisonellisondna/index.htm We have our website available on the web to help all Allison/Ellison researchers find others who are researching the same Allison/Ellison line. The more participants who join the DNA Project, the more information there will be available and the easier it will be for all of us to find our long-lost cousins. Y-Chromosome DNA is passed from father to son down through the generations just as surnames are passed from father to son. Only men inherit the Y-chromosome, therefore only men can be participants in a Y-chromosome DNA Family Reconstruction Project. For our surname DNA project, the Y-Chromosome DNA samples can only be provided by Allison or Ellison males who have the ALLISON / ELLISON Surname. If you have a male descendant of your mother's Allison line (uncle, nephew, cousin... even a distant male cousin) who HAS the ALLISON surname and is interested in joining the DNA Project, I'll be glad to share further info about cost, how to join, etc. All the best, Mary Allison Yonan Co-ordinator, Allison/Ellison DNA Project yonan@fgi.net Allison/Ellison DNA Project Results website: http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~allisonellisondna/index.htm Member of the International Society of Genetic Genealogy (ISOGG) www.isogg.org

Many of this family settled around Old Fort in McDowell Co, NC. The census inaccuracies you see are not all that uncommon. Mary evidently was a second wife to Richard, who was aging, and so may or may not have provided the census information herself. Sometimes the census taker just looked at the woman and guessed! Women frequently don't age much in the census. As for the missing child Benjamin in 1860: he was 16 by then and could have been off working as a farmhand for another family or could have died in the years between the census. I can't tell you who Richard precisely descends from, but I do know that given his location and the names of his children (Richard, Benjamin, and Thomas among them), that he is from this larger Allison clan, all descendants of Thomas Allanson/Allison of Christian Temple Manor, Charles Co, MD. There is a message on Genforum about this family. I can't vouch for the accuracy, but it says that Mary was a Ricketts and the second wife of Richard Allison. See www.genforum.com, go to the Allison forum to message 572 for the message about the family of this Richard. The person who can best help you sort this out is Michael Allison, who heads the national Allison Family Association. His email is dma12@bellsouth.net . However, I suggest you wait until early November to contact him. He is very busy all this month with the annual national Allison family reunion the weekend of Oct 15 in Brevard, NC. Good luck. If this is your family, then you have more cousins that you can imagine out there! I've located them on the 1930 census in Osola, Elkhart County, Indiana living as adopted daughters of Claude J. and Ethel O. Gerring. They have no other children in the household. Opal and Ola had 4 other full-blood siblings and I have not located them yet. I do not know what happened to James & Dolly Allison. I am wondering, though if it is possible that Claude J. and Ethel O. Gerring are related to Dolly???
