They used both names. Before 1850, my Elijah and his siblings used the name Ellison and in our dna research we have matches with Ellisons. You did not say whether or not you received the info I sent direct. If you did, you will notice that on one census Jeremiah Scotland Allison was recorded as Ellison. I would appreciate it if you would let me know if you did get the information or not. Anne

Good Morning, I am looking for information on the following two brothers who were born in Statesville, Iredell Co., NC. They removed to Copiah County, Mississippi, but when and whether or not they were accompanied by their parents is unclear. Both of these brothers went into the printers trade, Adam ALLISON becoming the editor of a newspaper in Hazelhurst, Copiah County, Mississippi, and his brother also working with him. Adam also worked at newspapers in Claiborne county, but I am unsure of where. (1) Adam Lafayette ALLISON was born June 1831 in Statesville, Iredell County, North Carolina and died 04 April 1911 in Summit, Pike County, Mississippi. He married Mary Frances HATCH on 4 JAN 1860 in Copiah County, MS. She was born 17 February 1837 in Mississippi and died 02 May 1908 in Summit, Pike County, Mississippi (2) Franklin Alexander ALLISON was born 15 MAR 1840 in Statesville, North Carolina (Iredell County), and died 21 JAN 1913 in Washington, DC. He married Mary Bond NEAL on 22 APR 1861 in Hazelhurst, Copiah County, Mississippi, daughter of Benjamin Rush NEAL and Catherine Rosetta DODGE. She was born BET. 1843 - 1844 in Mississippi, and died 14 MAY 1920 in Birmingham, Alabama. Both brothers served in the Confederate Army, Adam joining at Jackson. MS and Franklin joining at Hazelhurst, MS. Any information would be most helpful. Karima
Tabitha, I am very interested in your Allisons you found in SC in 1720 as Laurens Co. was still Native American lands till 1769 when 96 district was formed and Laurens was a county about 1785. Would it be possible they were still in NC then? I am very interested in any Allisons in the areas of NC/SC/GA/AL as mine were in those states. I do find an Allison in Wilkes Co. GA before the REV war though and I think he was a Robert Allison. Strange you finding your Allisons in St Clair Co. AL. I also have a John Allison b. abt 1802 in NC and went to Al. I cannot find anything on his ancestors though. We have DNA tests [kit # 20132] on him but don't link to any other Allison yet. This John [my direct ancestor] came from Guliford Co. NC as far as I can find and went to Clarke Co. GA and was in Blount Co. AL in 1860. I found his son Martin V. Allison in St Clair in 1870 and he served from Blount Co. in the CSA and see below info on him. From: http://home.hiwaay.net/~bobwonda/blount.html Company B, Blount County 28th Alabama Infantry Allison, Martin V., (5th Sergeant), born about 1843 in Georgia, son of John and Martha Allison, enlisted at age 19 at Murphree's Crossroads; on company muster-in roll at Shelby Springs 13 Mar 1862; on muster roll from 4 Feb to 30 Apr 1862; on muster roll from Jan to Feb 1864; re-enlisted 23 Jan 1864 for the duration of the war; received clothing 23 Apr and 30 Jun 1864; no further record. 1870 St. Clair Co. The biography you've read about Clay Allison is INCORRECT as to his parents! They were, actually, Jeremiah Scotland and Mariah R. Brown Allison....the line comes from NORTH Carolina, not South Carolina! Don't think your line connects with Clay's at all.... Contact Tom Evans in Minnesota, whose line is parallel to Clay's through brothers Robert J. and William Allison, for the complete Clay Allison family tree. We do have connections in TN but I cannot find any that would connect us to Clay Allison, the Shooter. I do have the genealogy on Clay Allison that was given to me by a relative if you are interested. My ggrandfather, Clayborn Smith Allison migrated to Texas in the late 1800's but his brothers George, Cornelius, and one other brother went to Hardin Co. TN after the Civil war. George was married to a Josephine Smith from TN. I have a photo of James Madison with my grandfather's youngest sister. My line: Elijah-Clayborn-Albert Augusta-Mary Pauline Allison (my Mom) You are correct about the stories of Clay Allison in our family but I cannot find the connection as yet. Anne

I'm not certain of any of Moses dates or his wife's name. I'm getting many conflicting reports. I'm hoping that the Moses that I'm looking for has parents names Robert Allison and Elizabeth Scott. But he may not. If anyone has any information on Moses Allison who had a son named John who married Nancy McDaniel please let me know. Or if you have a John Allison married to a Nancy McDaniel who's father is NOT Moses please let me know that too. I could be wrong about John's father's name...
