Only men inherit the Y-chromosome, therefore only men with the Allison or Ellison or Ellyson surnames can be participants in the Allison/Ellison/Ellyson Y-chromosome DNA Family Reconstruction Project. Women can't participate by providing a DNA sample, but they can partipate by encouraging a male in her Allison line to become a participant. She can also participate by helping to pay for all or part of the cost of a DNA test. Y-Chromosome DNA is passed from father to son down through the generations just as surnames are passed from father to son. In other words, the Y-Chromosome DNA samples can only be provided by Allison or Ellison or Ellyson males who have the ALLISON / ELLISON / ELLYSON Surname. I hope that I've explained that clearly. If you have a living male relative with the Allison/Ellison surname, he would have the same DNA as your Allison/Ellison male line and he would be an ideal participant to represent your Allison line in the Allison/Ellison Y-chromosome DNA project. Our Allison/Ellison DNA Project Results webpage is online. The URL is: http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~allisonellisondna/index.htm When you click on Participant #24627 on the DNA results chart, you will see his paternal ancestry chart. He has Allison ancestors who lived in Bedford Co., TN. in the early to mid 1800s. Perhaps you share a common Allison ancestry with him. The Family Tree DNA Company (FTDNA) is offering at reduced prices three different Y-chromosome DNA paternal ancestry tests to registered family groups like our ALLISON/ELLISON group: (1) the 12 marker test for $99 (US dollars) (2) the 25 Marker test for $169 (US dollars) (3) the 37 Marker test for $229 (US dollars) It is necessary to add $2 shipping cost. A participant does not pay for the DNA test kit when he places the order. He will include a check when he mails the DNA sample back to Family Tree DNA. The link below can be used by an Allison or Ellison or Ellyson male who might wish to submit his name, mailing address,e-mail address, etc. to order a DNA sample kit to be mailed to him and join the Allison/Ellison DNA Project. http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.asp?code=H99693 All the best, Mary Allison Yonan

L. [Adam Lafayette] Allison, died at her home here last Saturday morning, May 2, at 8 o'clock, aged 71 years 2 months and 15 days, after a brief illness. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. S. Parker, pastor of the Methodist church, at the residence, Saturday evening at 5 o'clock, a large number of sorrowing relatives and friends being present. Mr. Parker delivered a most tender and touching tribute to the memory of the deceased, dwelling upon her long and active membership in the church and the zealous interest she always manifested in good work in the Lord's vineyard; her noble and unselfish devotion to loved ones, and the kind and charitable deeds she was ever wont to render. Sunday morning the remains were taken to Hazelhurst, accompanied by her husband, sister and a number of friends, and laid away in the cemetery there. Mrs. Allison moved to Summit with her husband in Feb. 1869, and had resided here constantly until the day of her death. She was known to every person in town as one of the most charitable, generous and gentle women; a faithful and devout follower of Christ, a doer of good deeds whenever opportunity afforded, and she enjoyed the esteem and love of all in a high degree. Her sad death is deeply deplored and lamented by all who were cognizant with her great kindness, liberality and gentleness of spirit. She leaves her aged and stricken husband and a sister, Miss Emily Hatch to mourn their irreparable loss, to both of whom the sincerest sympathy of the entire community is tendered in their sorrow. Hello Robert, I read your letter of May 14, and I believe that the parents of Alonzo Allison were Ashbury/Asberry and Sarah (Stubbs) Allison/Ellison. Sarah died by 1860. Ashbury had a second wife Elizabeth Eyestone Beckett born c1817 Indiana. Ashbury was the son of John (died 1832) and Sarah Allison. Regards, Judith -- http://home1.gte.net/judithaw/index.htm
