The William who built the house you refer to is an uncle of the William Bowen, born in the 1760s. The latter being the son of John Bowen Jr. and Rachel Mathews, and John a brother to the elder William. The younger William was sometimes referred to as William Bowen, Jr. on records, his uncle being William Sr, since they did not always observe the direct line Sr. and Jr. naming then, as in current naming patterns.
