I have just been appointed as state of Alabama coordinator for the Gen-web census transcription project. I will continue to work on the Morgan County 1900 census. I have 10 pages of enumerations until I post enumeration district 134 to the web. That is the Somerville e.d. I have 2 requests concerning this project. If anyone has a completed transcription either posted on the web, or which you are willing to share, please advie me. For those online I will place links on the Gen Web site. Those which you have transcribed from film will be installed also. Secondly We can use transcribers and proofreaders. You have to provide your own raw data, or of course you can get it at your friendly Family History Center, many Libraries and societies. Personally I am using the Ancestry.com images available online for a grand cost of $100 per year including all of Ancestry's other databases. We have the transcription form programs. The one that I am using is called Cen Trans. As I work, I can get an index either by page or by person. Works great for filling in holes in my database. Either write me or go to http://www.rootsweb.com/~census/ for details. You can also go there to see the completed transcriptions. This is a really great way to assist other genealogists forever more. The goal of this project is to transcribe every existing US census including the 1890 fragments and have it online. Feel free to email me or call me if you need more info. Earnie R.
