My earliest ancestor in Limestone Co, AL is Augustus A. Greeson b. 1811 (I know not where), d. 1848 in Limestone Co, near Athens, and is buried in the New Garden cemetery. Also buried there is a John Greeson b. 1766, d. 1852 - are they related? Augustus' son Nathaniel b. 1831 stated in an LDS record that his mother was Lucy Hodges. I have been unable to find a marriage record for Lucy and Augustus. His wife's name at the time of his death was Mary, and I find no marriage record for them. Court records list Augustus' children as William Henry, Mary Ann (who married Thomas Davis), John Carroll, Harriett Ann (who married John W. Smith) and Thomas Luney. I've been able to find some information on Harriett, but have no information on the other children. Nathaniel married Elvira N. Andrews (Dau of William A. and Nancy G. (Arnold) Andrews). They are buried in the Legg Cemetery. If any one has information re the Greeson siblings or the ancestors of Augustus, Lucy, Mary or the Andrews I would appreciate hearing from you. Lois

Listmembers, Just wanted to remind everyone that we still have a few days left on our Sharing Week. I invite everyone to post your queries. Who knows, you just might find that missing branch in the family tree! Here are the rules again: 1) Names must be in the subject line. Please don't use "sharing", "my surnames", or other useless phrases. The subject line is the first thing people see, and if the names are in the subject line you might get more responses. 2) Only 3 surnames per message, but you can post as many messages as you like (well...don't send 1,000!). Ok....that's it. Everybody have fun and happy hunting! Sincerely, Kim Ivey [email protected] Listowner

Hopefully someone can help offer suggestions on where to look next? I am back to these Garrett's: Charles Garrett - born 1812 in Alabama (believed to be Isaac's brother) Married Ruth Miller born 1811 in NC (believed to be daughter of John Miller and Polly Hudspeth, married 1807 in Surry County, NC) Isaac Garrett - born 1806 in Alabama (believed to be Charles's brother) Simpson Garrett - born 1833 in Alabama (believed to be Isaac's son) The birth locations are from Census data. Although census data list Alabama as the birth place, was Alabama a State at that time? Was Limestone County a county at the time? If not, where might they have been born to cause them to give Alabama as birth location? I have exhausted searches in Limestone County. And my only support for searching Limestone County is because Charles owned land there. And the connection to a Peterson Family Charles's land was within three miles of Giles County Tennessee on the Elk River. Isaac Garrett lived nearby. In 1842 a marriage license was issued to Isaac Garrett and Elizabeth Peterson but was not returned. Also, the 1850 Census list a John Peterson family nearby with two girls living with them. They are Mary Jane Garrett, age 11, and Abigail Garrett, age 8. I speculate that Perhaps Elizabeth had died and the girls were left with the Peterson's while Isaac and Simpson traveled to Arkansas with his brother Charles and other neighbors such as the Millers? In later years Mary Jane and Abigail turn up in Texas near where Simpson eventually settled in Llano County, Texas. Charles sold the land he acquired in Limestone County, Alabama in 1850. He and his family moved that year to Yell County Arkansas and are on the 1850 census in Yell County Ark. Also, In the Charles Garrett household on the 1850 Yell County census is Isaac Garrett, age 44, and Simpson Garrett, age 16 living with them. I've found no records of Isaac after his recorded 1850 census mention in Yell County. By 1855 Simpson Garrett was in Llano County Texas. Married, Margaret Helen Cowan born Lincoln County, Tennessee, and lived the remaining years of his life there. His descendants are in Llano and spread over the state of Texas. The family is well documented after his arrival in Texas. I would be especially appreciative of any information or ideas of where to look next to find the parents and ancestors of Isaac and Charles Garrett. Cordially, Coy Garrett [email protected]
