Hi All, I am new to this list but am living in Limestone Co AL. I thought I would try to help with lookups when I can for those who dont live in this area. I do not get out but once a week or so but if you dont mind waiting I can do some searching at the two local libraries that have most of the Limestone information as well as once a month in Madison Co/Huntsville library which has an excellent research area. Like I said, I dont get out much but try to go Saturdays to the library. There is also some information at the Courthouse Annex basement but I dont get there much- its not open weekends. Once a month or two at best. I would be happy to do what I can. I have been helped so much by others I like to give back by helping others. Posted on: Limestone County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Al/Limestone/10553 Surname: REED, COX, GILBERT ------------------------- If anyone has easy access to an indexed Limestone County 1840 or 1850 census, could you please check for a Samuel C. Reed? The only clue I have as to his birth/death dates is that he died before 1868 when his father died, and he had a son by then. I'm guessing he was born in the 1820 - 1830 timeframe. Thanks! Jane
Posted on: Limestone County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Al/Limestone/10552 Surname: Moody, Guthrie ------------------------- My Gr-gr-grandmother, Ann Beal md. Robert Guthrie, Jr. and they were in Giles Co., Tn. in 1830. By 1840, she had left her husband and had married John Moody, also of Giles County, Tn. (prob. a son of Nathaniel Moody of the same place). Have been told that they md. in Limestone Co., Ala. in 1845. I feel they may have been in Limestone Co. when the 1840 census was taken. By 1850, John Moody is evidently deceased and Ann Moody is listed on the 1850 Giles Co., Tn. census with 3 Moody daughters, and also on the 1860 Giles Co., Tn. census with one Moody dau. Can anyone tell me anything about this family? Could someone possibly do a lookup for me in marriage records of Limestone Co., Ala.; and also lookup in 1840 Limestone Co.,Ala. for John Moody family. Thanks very much. Betty Guthrie McCollum

'Carriage' is a latin root word, from old French. Carrosier (sp) would be a carriage or auto body maker. The word is borrowed, for, for instance, the Karman outfit that made and may still make Porsches and VWs. (Karman-Ghia). That doesn't mean the name couldn't have crept into Hesse and come over in the Revolution, but I would start by guessing it was a French or English name. Of course, perhaps you don't have a straight male line all the way back to Hesse. Then anything is possible. ----- Original Message ----- From: "MC" <mgiffen@earthlink.net> To: <ALLIMEST-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, April 05, 2001 10:50 PM Subject: [ALLIMEST] Carriger > Posted on: Limestone County Queries > Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Al/Limestone/10547 > > Surname: > ------------------------- > > What is Limestone County?
