Listmembers, I declare the week of 3 June-9 June 2000 as sharing week. There are a few rules, so please read this message carefully before jumping in. Rules: 1) Please put names/dates/places in the subject line. Do not use ambiguous subject lines such as "my lines", "sharing", "my brick walls", "roll call", etc. Remember, most people don't read each and every list message. They read the ones with subject lines that are of interest. 2) Only 3 surnames per message, however, you can send as many messages as you like. 3) Any query format is acceptable. You can just put a list of names, a report copied from your genealogy program, or whatever. 4) Include your e-mail address. Don't always count on the reply button. 5) Do not post information on living people. This is to protect their privacy. Now I want to discuss how the "Reply" button works on this list. I have this list set to reply to sender. That means when you hit the reply button your message won't go to the list, but to the person who sent the message you hit reply to. So, to send new messages to the list it's always best to put the list address in the "To" field. If you don't, then when you hit reply to a message just to get yours on the list, it won't go there, it will go to the person who sent that message. Ok, that's it. Let's get busy composing our queries. Good luck to everyone! Sincerely, Kim Ivey <kivey@companet.net> Listowner

Posted on: Limestone County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Al/Limestone/10608 Surname: BALL, GRAGG, SLAUGHTER, WALLIS ------------------------- I am researching the family of Joseph H. Ball and his wife, Phebe (Phoebe) (Phebia) Slaughter who lived in Limestone County as early as 1819. He was a Blacksmith. She was the daughter of John Slaughter. They were married in Knox County KY in 1803. I found a "note": "I promise to pay Samuel gragg twenty three dollars & twenty five cents for value received witness my hand this 7th (guessing) day of aprile 1819. Joseph H Ball" a court document dated October 1828 in Ray County, MO referred to the "...certin note of hand that Joseph-h-ball give in the state of allebamer to Sammul gragg plantiff..." Is there anyone who can do lookups? anyone who knows about Samuel Gragg & what service he might have provided?

The problem I have is that a Nancy Rainbolt, is Sarah Filgo's daughter by Joseph Rainbolt. Nancy's birthdate is listed Aug.30 1831, She had a sister Emily born 1844. I find no mention of these two in family records with this birthdates. The birthdates may be wrong. Joseph died in 1825. Or ???. Nancy married Lewis Wickham.

There is a Joseph RAINBOLT born ca 1800 who was the son of Elisha RAINBOLT. In Probate Book 4, pages 513, 514, and 515 are found the final settlement of the estate of Elisha RAINBOLT, dated 26 Mar 1829. Included in this report are the receipts showing that the minor children finally reached age to receive their share of the estate. Each of the heirs received $251.78 as his or her share. This included Phillis FILGO, wido of Elisha, who had remarried. Also included was the share received by Edwin RAINBOLT who was the son of Elisha's deceased son Joseph. James McCUAN, step-father signed the receipt for Edwin RAINBOLT on the 13th of June 1840. William Henry Harrison RAINBOLT (my ancestor) received his share, principal and interest, on 14th August 1834. This information is on page 268, The Rainbolt Family: A Genealogy of Joseph Rainbolt and his Descendants Compiled by Earl Brown, Frances M. Norman, and Dorothy R. McBride. The above Joseph RAINBOLT is listed as individual ! #1129 in this book and so there should be more information available on him than I have. The book is out of print, but is in the National Genealogical Society Library and can be rented by members. I think the book is also in the Clayton Library in Houston. Hope this helps.
