As far as I know, no Alabama 1820 censuses survive. I can not find Limestone Co 1830 on the line and I do not have anyone who has volunteered to transcribe it. Sorry I can't be of more help. Perhaps someone will volunteer to transcribe it for all of us. Earnie R. You know, once these errors are out there, they take on a life of their own. I've had about 5 hits in the last month or so. There seems to be a women in W.VA., claiming to be a genealogist and she seems to be prepetuating this error. I'd love to get her address and write her, but no luck yet. The addresses I found for her, no longer are valid. Don't you wonder how these people get away with it??? I've seen some of the most bazziar GED' s on Ancestry.com involving my line of Bowen's. When I contacted the persons who GED they belonged too, they freely admitten that they copied it of the Internet and never once did their own research. Amazing. Jeannie

I ran into a number of people who had given their line to the wrong John Bowen of the John Bowen, Sr. Jr. & III, who was dead many years before the John in their line. I had convinced Dick and some others they were on the wrong track, but there still may be some going in that direction. I had a woman write a few months back, who thought her ancestor was the daughter of my great grandfather Bowen, but I knew immediately by the names involved that it couldn't be. I suspected her line was Hugha, etc., as it turned out to be. Marguerite
Can someone please tell me if the 1820's and or the 1830 Census are on-line for Limestone Co. ? Many Thanks Robbie

I wasn't aware of John Bowen at all, and I have very little on the Bowen family, other than the fact that there are supposedly some McIlhaney's somewhere in the lineage from Ireland (or else they're on the Buchanan side of my bunch - don't recall exactly, but seems like the Bowen's were mixed up with Craigs and McIlhaney's.) So your William Bowen is the son of John Bowen, John Bowen, William Bowen, and Agnes (Bowen) McFerrin-Buchanan then are siblings! Cool! Please keep in touch! thanks your new cousin, Will Smith

Do you know anything about the LeFon/Bowen connection? I have a women who thought her Bowen line was my line, John Bowen/Lillian McIllhaney. But that mysterious name of "Hugha Bowen" popped up and I knew she was on the wrong track. Unfortunentily, I don't know much about this line. God Bless Dick Bowen was just getting into explaining it to me when he passed away. Do you know anything about them??? I do know they have confused John Bowen III, through John Bowen/Rachel Mathew's line, as their's, but that's about it. Would greatly appreciate any help you can give me. Sincerely, Jeannie

The William who built the house you refer to is an uncle of the William Bowen, born in the 1760s. The latter being the son of John Bowen Jr. and Rachel Mathews, and John a brother to the elder William. The younger William was sometimes referred to as William Bowen, Jr. on records, his uncle being William Sr, since they did not always observe the direct line Sr. and Jr. naming then, as in current naming patterns. Thanks, Marguerite

I've been so busy with local genealogy, I've had little time to pursue my own. Thanks for thinking of me. Marguerite

Surnames: Bowen, Buchanan, Steele Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/EU.2ADI/433.433 Message Board Post: Is this William Bowen born 1768 the same one who built the house near Goodlettsville in 1787 which still stands in Moss-Wright Park? If so, this William Bowen is the brother of my 7th great grandmother, Agnes (Bowen) McFerrin-Buchanan, wife of Archibald Buchanan. Agnes would have been born, however, about 1740, since she married Archibald about 1762 in Augusta County, VA after the death of her first husband, James McFerrin, ancestor of the famous Methodist ministers by that name. William Bowen's grandson was Tennessee Governor William Bowen Campbell (1851-1853), a close friend of President Andrew Johnson. I descend from Agnes (Bowen) McFerrin Buchanan through her daughter, Martha Buchanan who married Andrew Steele in Virginia about 1780 or 1781. Thanks Will
