Hello Listmembers, It's me, your crazy listowner. I have revised the list rules a little and am posting them here. In a few more days I will be adding this to the welcome message that everyone gets when they first subscribe. I will also post it here for everyone to read. NOTE: This message is not in response to anything anyone has posted. I just think it's important to post these updated rules. LIST RULES · Stay on topic. Inappropriate topics include (but not limited to) the following: virus warnings, chain letters, advertisements or websites not related to this list, political/religious/racial statements or slurs, general computer/software/internet questions, name meanings, old sayings, old medical terms, recipes, home remedies, poems or stories not related to this list. · No flaming (hate mail). If you simply must vent please take it off the list. Also don't reply to hate mail. To do so will only generate tons of messages that nobody cares to read. · No roll calls. You are more than welcome to post your surnames, but you must put at least put the surnames in the subject line. From time to time I will declare a "swapping" or "sharing" week, but the same rule applies here too. · Don't correct other listmember's spelling or grammar. · Don't police the list. Your listowner is capable of handling listmembers who get out of line. · No vulgar/obscene language (cussing). Remember, there could be children lurking around. It is not my intention to silence free speech. However, the mailing lists at RootsWeb were created for a purpose, to provide a forum where researches can discuss genealogical matters relating to the list in question. They were not designed to be a free-for-all. I am proud to say that since I've been the listowner, there have been no problems. I hope it stays that way. Also, I want to be as diplomatic as possible. If anyone has any suggestions, please e-mail me privately. Nobody will be removed from the list simply for having a different opinion, as long as you e-mail your opinions and concerns to me privately and not air them on the list. Sincerely, Kim Ivey <[email protected]> Listowner

I am looking for info. on Mary Ann (Motes) McLain b: abt.1830 in GA. I am assuming Mary Ann married ? McLain abt:1846 as her first son was born in 1847, which would have made her abt: 17. The 1870 census record of Limestone has her being born in Ga. and her parents in S.C. Children are: Thomas 1847, Necy Jane 1855 (g-grandmother), George W. 1856, Henry M. 1857/58. I have been told Necy Jane was born in Cedartown Ga. and Thomas and George also in Ga. Henry in Al. Mary Ann (Motes) McLain's husband suposedly died in the civil war from disease. Would love to make contact with someone who has info. on this family, as they have me baffled. Thank You, Janice [email protected]
Listmembers, I have recently become aware that there are some people who are subscribed to the list under on address, but post messages using a different address (like maybe your e-mail at work or something like that). I am told by some of the powers that be at RootsWeb that such messages will not go to the list but bounce to me as listowner. You see the RootsWeb system recognizes your e-mail address, not your name (or nickname if you don't use your real name). However, there is a solution to this little problem. If you are subscribed to the list under one address but sometimes post messages using another address, I can add your other address to the "Accept" list. You will only receive messages under the address you subscribed with, but you can post a message using your other address. If you need me to do this for you, e-mail me with the address you are subscribed under and the address you need me to put on the Accept List. Also, if you have any questions feel free to contact me. Sincerely, Kim Ivey ([email protected]) Listowner
Listmembers, When responding to messages that come off of the Limestone Co., GenConnect message boards, please reply to the sender directly. He/she may not be subscribed to the list and therefore may not be able to reply to your message if you send it to the list. Click on the link where it says "Board URL". That will take you to the message board where you can reply to the person directly. Messages that come from the GenConnect message boards is a fairly new thing. RootsWeb has set it up where messages posted to message boards are also posted to the list. So keep that in mind if you use both the list and the message boards for posting queries. Thanks, Kim Ivey ([email protected]) or ([email protected]) Listowner

Hi, I am searching for more information on the Starkey family in Limestone Co, Al. Is there anyone on this list who is descended from this family? My direct ancestor is Julia Frances (Fanny) Marier Starkey. Quite a mouthful isn't it? This family seemed to give many of their children 3 given names. She married William S. Walker.
