Levi Thomas and Mary Jane Cartwright were married Oct. 22, 1868 in Lauderdale County, Alabama. They are both buried in Gravley Springs Cemetary. Family legend is that Mary Jane was either full or part Indian. We think that Levi may have been married before, but don't have any information on him prior to this marriage certificate. We also think he was a carpenter by trade, but this is only speculation. We think he traveled between his home in Lauderdale Co and Savanah, TN looking for work. They had two son, John Nelson and William Henry. William Henry Thomas married Laura Clanton. They had, I think, 5 children, one of which was my grandmother. Laura Clanton is believed to be a cousin of Ike Clanton of OK Corral fame. Any information would be greatly appreciated. >
