David & List, I see that your (David's) Cagles of Hardin Co TN were mostly CSA men. As you likely know the border area of AL/TN was Guerilla warfare territory. Quite a few Alabamians who fled the CSA went into Hardin, Wayne & Lawrence counties TN seeking refuge from the CSA; many of those from Winston/Blount/Cullman, Walker county areas walked the "Freedom trail", a back-path that led from the counties south of the TN River through the outskirts of Florence and into Wayne & Hardin Co TN for refuge. Some of these AL refugees joined up with the infamous Union Regiments raised there. A fair number of your Cagles from down Alabama way were among the Union men: >Unionist, John Adam Cagle b 1798 Carrubus Co NC d Oct 1, 1863, killed by CSA homeguard, Boar Tusk, Winston Co AL >1st Ala Cavalry (USV), Albert S.
