Hello, Lauderdale Listers, I'm a Davis researcher and believe I may have finally found my g-g-g-grandfather Joseph Davis born 1837 in Alabama. I found, using Ancestry.com's 1850 census index, a Joseph Davis who fits the bill, in Lauderdale Co., age 13, in the household of Jane Davis who was born ca. 1800 in South Carolina. This fits with Joe's 1880 and subsequent census answers - parents born in SC. Others in the household besides Jane and Joseph are: Clayborn age 18 b. AL Sarah age 11 b. AL Louisa age 9 b. AL Assuming all these kids are Jane's, and Louisa's age is accurate, Jane's husband must have died 1840-ish. Does the Thomas Davis married to Jane (who lived next door to Jane in 1850) belong to this family also? Has anyone researched this family? Does anyone know who Jane's husband was? According to Joseph's later census entries, his father was born in SC also.
