Can anyone tell me where Tickridge is in Lauderdale Co., AL? My Henry Wade Williams married Calline (Caroline) Lanier October 6, 1880 at that place. I thought if I knew where it was at, I could print off a map from the Lauderdale site. I am still trying to find out where Caroline is buried. I think she died in 1890. But don't know if it was in AL or AR. I have been trying to locate her for years. Her husband landed over in Little River Co., AR. He married 2 more times. He died in 1940. He was born in 1855. I would think that someone studying the Lanier lines might have this info. Thanks for any help anyone can give me. Jane Foley Cornelus, NC

The following is all I find on Tick------ in published records. I'll ask around, because the name is most unusual, but I'll bet that the area is already in the information below. Pat ___________________________________________________________ Sockwell's "Place Names of Colbert and Lauderdale Counties, Alabama" : TICKVILLE SCHOOL. Loc. in SW 1/4 of S5, T1s, R9w, 1/2 mi. north of Upper Green Hill, directly west and across Jackson H'way fr. old John Lemaster home place. Some say it was estab. soon after the Civil War and others say later, c. 1882. Discont. c. 1898. This was a one-room log cabin, one o the early schools in the county. Supposedly so named because of the many ticks in the area. Garrett's "History of Lauderdale County, Alabama" p. 157 "County School System" Tickville School, a one-room log cabin, near Green Hill was an early school i the county. In 1885 the teach of this school was the mother of Allen Thornton, the current Lauderdale County Superintendent of Education. Hill's "A History of Green Hill and Some Surrounding Communities in Lauderdale County, Alabama with 54 Cemeteries of the County." Located in what is now known as upper Green Hill on the east side of "Andrew Jackson's Military Road" It is believed by some that this school was built about 1870 but evidence indicate that it was built about 1882. It was discontinued about 1898 and students attended school at Green Hill, which was about one mile south of Tickville School. Perhaps the first teacher here was Miss Montague, who was from Wayne County, Tennessee. Mr. James (Jim) Thigpen was also a teacher here.
