    3. This is a variation of a well known hoax. I am a computer system engineer. I have never seen a valid virus notice that says "quick send this to everyone". It is just a ploy to flood our internet with e-mails. For up-to-date virus and hoax information check out this link: http://www.icsa.net/services/consortia/anti-virus/ The e-mail virus/Trojan danger is in the attachments. If you don't know who e-mail is from, it is best not to open any attachments you may find in the e-mail. Just delete it. Then, empty your recycle bin. - Homer Lawless -----Original Message----- From: Deborah_A_Humphres <Deborah_A_Humphres@email.msn.com> To: ALLAUDER-L@rootsweb.com <ALLAUDER-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Wednesday, April 14, 1999 11:43 AM Subject: [ALLAUDER-L] computer virus >PAY ATTENTION THIS IS A KILLER VIRUS, KILLER IN THIS CASE MEANS A BAD >THING!!!! ONLY AN E-MAIL WITH AN ATTACHED FILE can contain a virus. So any e-mail you receive is safe unless you download the file. My husband is a software Engineer and my brother is a computer programmer. Both have advised me (and a LOT of others) that it's NOT the e-mail you must worry about, but the attached files. If you receive an e-mail from someone you either do not know or are not expecting information from and the e-mail has an attached file, do NOT down load it. Delete it. Once you download the file, the virus will be in your computer, until then, you are safe. Francy

    3. Hello Newcomer, Welcome to genealogy. It is the most interesting and satisfying hobby I can think of. (my personal opinion) I am always glad to see anyone start researching their roots, so I thought I would help you out a little if I can. In the book "A History of Lauderdale County Alabama" by Jill KNIGHT GARRETT, Gabriel BUTLER is mentioned as one of the early settlers of Lauderdale County, AL. The other BUTLER's mentioned in this book are: A.S. BUTLER Collins O'Neal BUTLER Dallas BUTLER James BUTLER John BUTLER M.L. BUTLER N.W. BUTLER Susanna BUTLER Thomas BUTLER W.J. BUTLER , so if any of these are your family, let me know and I will send you that information too. In the book, "Cemeteries of East Lauderdale County, Alabama" which is published by the "Friends of the Rogersville Public Library" 1996, Gabriel BUTLER is also mentioned. If you would be interested in a copy of this book, you can write to FRIENDS OF THE ROGERSVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY P.O. Box 190 Rogersville, AL 35652 to order a copy. I bought my copy for $35.00 I think, but of course their would probably be some shipping charges as well. I hope this helps to get you started. There are other BUTLERS buried in this cem. if you want the rest of them. There are also BUTLERS in other cemeteries. I will look Gabriel W. BUTLER up on some CD/s later and see if I come up with other places for you to look. Nancy LOVELACE GOOCH Smyrna, GA (formerly of Florence, Lauderdale County, AL) On page 85 & 86 Gabriel BUTLER is mentioned along with family members buried at BUTLER Cemetery at Bluewater Creek. BUTLER CEMETERY AT BLUEWATER CREEK Location: Go approx. 18miles east of Florence, AL on U.S. Highway 72, turn north on a paved road just west of Bluewater Creek Bridge. Follow the road for 1 mile or until it ends at the cemetery. In the Lauderdale County Platt Book, this land was deed to Gabriel BUTLER,Nov. 14, 1818. It is believed that Gabriel BUTLER and other member of his family are buried inthe stone enclosure in the cemetery, but no marked grave was found for any of them. This is a large and very old cemetery. There is a circular drive around the old part of the cemetery, therefore the listing is in two sections, starting on the west side which is a relatively new section. Copied by Doris & Karen McGEE. It's not enough to find a common name. You must follow documented events backwards until you have proof to the next event. Someone else's data base does not constitute "proof Remember to document carefully census records, wills, deeds, etc. to "prove" your find. If we don't do this our descendants will have a mess to muddle through. Deb

    3. Kelly, Lawrence County, TN (just across the line from Lauderdale, AL) shows the marriage of Jonathan Howell and Elizabeth P. Spencer on 28 July 1853. Source: *Lawrence County, TN Marriage Records 1818-1929* compiled by Donna Ramsey and Kathy Niedergeses I am not a Spencer or Howell descendant. However, I had some interest to look at Spencer families due to research on another family. I would suggest you take a look at the 1850 Lawrence County, TN census which shows: Household #201 Thomas Spencer 64 M farmer NC Elizabeth 50 KY Amasa 23 TN ELIZABETH 19 TN Wm. 17 Thomas 15 Henry 13 I believe Thomas' wife was Elizabeth Brooks, married in 1813 KY. Think this might be your Liz? Thomas' sister was, I believe, Ellender Spencer who married Lemule Blythe--which is of some passing interest to me. They married 1819 in Lawrence County, TN. There are Blythe and Spencer connections to the HOLLAND family, which is my tie. I don't have any clues re *Proctor*. Nor HOWELL. 3. Hello all- I am looking for and Elizabeth Proctor Spencer b.1/07/1833 in poss AL d. 3/13/1875 in Van Zandt cnty TX- that married before 1854 in probably Lauderdale cnty AL, John L Howell b. 3/03/1833 in Lauderdale cnty AL. d. 5/04/1910 in Van Zandt County TX. This couple had the following children: L L "Lowe" Howell H Blount Howell W R Howell Henry Harrison Howell Clem Howell and I have 2 unknown named children's for this couple. I am assuming that "Proctor" is a surname being used for a given name as it is kind of unusual for a female name although stranger names have occurred in my research. Family tradition states that John and Betty left AL for TX in the 1840-50's and settled in the Alsa Community near the present day town of Wills Point in Van Zandt County. Any one that might be researching this line of Spencers I would love to hear from you. Thanks for reading this post. Kelly Wimberly twisteda@worldnet.att.net

I wanted to say that I would like to volunteer to look up information at the courthouse, go to cemetaries, etc. AS MUCH AS I CAN to help you that aren't in this area... I am in college and I work, so I can't take on too much, but I figure every little bit helps, right? I would love for someone in the counties that my family was from to do this, but they don't. Maybe if I help someone, it will come back around in the long run, right? Just joking. Thanks, Nancy Berry

I have some names of children she and Reuben DAVIS had, but no birthdays. I visited Harmony Cemetery in Iuka MS last spring and photographed their headstones, unfortunately Elizabeth's headstone is broken and I couldn't read her death date.....does anyone have that information?
