    1. [ALLAUDER-L] WESTMORELAND
    2. Edgar D. Byler, III
    3. William WESTMORELAND was born in North Carolina "above New Bern" in either 1774/75 and was the youngest son and child of John and Ann "Nancy" Lenoir Westmoreland. William married about 1800 in Spartenburg Co., SC to his first? wife whose name is unknown. (could she have been an ALBERTY, daughter of Moses ALBERTY????). William moved to Laurens Co., SC in 1818 and then to Catawba Co., AL in 1821/2 where he was appointed a Captain in the Alabama militia by the Gov. Israel Pickens, husband of his first cousin, Martha Lenoir Pickens. It appears that William WESTMORELAND was in Lauderdale Co., Alabama by the late fall of 1822 as his daughter?, Catherine, b. 1804, married her first husband Elias HARRIS in Lauderdale Co., AL on 4 December 1822. Would like to find proof of children. Here's what I have. Probable children of William Westmoreland (1774/5-1854) 1. Amelia Westmoreland, b. ca. 1802, Spartenburg Co.,Sc, d. bef. 1870 Searcy Co.,AR, married ca. 1820-22 to Mordicai THORNTON. 2. Catherine Westmoreland, b. ca. 1804, Spartenburg Co., Sc, d. after 1880, Wayne Co., TN, m1) 4 December 1822, Lauderdale Co., AL to Elias HARRIS, m. 2) 18 Nov 1831, Lauderdale Co., AL to Gillum H. WALKER; m. 3) 23 Oct 1835 Lauderdale Co.,AL to Abner GALLION. 3. Alberty Westmoreland, b. 1806/7 SC, m. 1) Wayne Co., TN by 1830 to Mary WILSON, m. 2) Independence Co., AR 11 July 1849 to Martha TERRELL, m. 3)? bef. 1860 to Sarah ______. Died poss. in Yell Co., AR after 1870. 4. Moses Westmoreland, b. 1810 (could poss. be same as no. 3) 5. girl, name unknown, b. ca. 1810-1815. 6. Nancy Westmoreland, b. 4 Dec 1814/7, d. 14 Sep 1891/5, Wayne Co., TN, married 23 Apr 1831 Lauderdale Co., AL to Denson WILSON (brother to Mary WILSON who married Alberty Westmoreland) 7. girl, name unknown, b. ca. 1820-23 (this could poss. be Milly House who became William's second wife?) 8. Jesse Westmoreland -no other info. William Westmoreland's first? wife died between 1830 and 1833 and on 12 Aug 1833, Lauderdale Co., AL William married Milly HOUSE who was born 1821 (per 1850 Wayne Co., TN census, but more likely 1801 or 1811). William sold his farm in Lauderdale Co., AL in 1836 and moved to Wayne Co.,TN where he died we think in 1854. He is probably buried in the old Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery on TN Wy 227 between Cypress Inn, TN and Railroad Church. Edgar Edgar D. 1. Re: [ALLAUDER-L] Birth Record
    2. Pat M. Mahan
    3. Good Morning Brenda, There are several ways you might be able to prove the birth date of James Harve MOODY, but an actual birth certificate is not one of them. The state of AL did not begin keeping vital statistics until 1908, and it wasn't really mandatory until much later. 1. Do you know where he is buried? If the grave is marked, does the birth date agree with what you have? 2. Is there a family Bible record? Be sure to try for a certified copy of the family records. This includes the 'fly page' and the page that shows the date of publication as well as the family info pages. 3. The 1900 census will give you the month and year of birth. It is the only census that has been released with this information. 4. If his father served in the Civil War and applied for a pension, sometime they will list all of the children and their dates of birth in these records. 5. If his father dies while James Harve Moody is a minor [under 21 years of age] then his birth date may be included in his father's probate records. If the actual date is not included, his guardian will sign over whatever is left of James's portion of the estate when James reaches 21. Hope this helps. Pat M. 3. Dear Cemetery Researchers, I am writing to give you an update on our work regarding The Historical Atlas of Alabama, Volume II: Cemetery Locations by County. Allow me to first thank everyone who has contributed to the project thus far. I apologize for not being able to personally respond to every submission. We have received hundreds of submissions so far and it would not be humanly possible to respond to each contributor. While our work is not complete, the end for this edition is in sight. Some people have asked if it is too late to submit information. This is an ongoing project and as such we welcome submissions at any time. While your information may not find its way into this edition, it will be included in future editions of the Atlas. Once the Atlas becomes circulated publicly, we fully anticipate new submissions and corrections. We consider this edition to be the beginning, rather than the end, of the cemetery atlas project. We have kept track of snail mail and email addresses and will make you aware of the availability of the completed book. Publication is still several months away. Once again, my thanks.
