Greetings, I have for many years been researching my gr gr grandfather NATHAN DAVIS (1786 - ?) who's son was named LEVI FOWLER DAVIS (1819 - 1888) NATHAN DAVIS was first found by this researcher in LAUDERDALE COUNTY ALABAMA. NATHAN DAVIS was in Lauderdale Co. from about 1821 until about 1842, when he moved to DESOTO COUNTY, MS. Family legend has NATHAN DAVIS coming from South Carolina, but I have never been able to locate the place of his birth nor who his parents were. I offer the following information in hopes of finding additional information about NATHAN DAVIS These are assumptions only: Nathan was first married to EMILY FOWLER in South Carolina. EMILY FOWLER was the child of MARTHA O> FOWLER and LEVI FOWLER. MARTHA O> FOWLER came to Lauderdale County Alabama with her daughter and her son-in-law NATHAN. EMILY FOWLER DAVIS died about 1819 at the birth or complications from the birth of her son LEVI FOWLER DAVIS. Her mother MARTHA FOWLER and Nathan's 2nd wife EMILY McLUSTER (McALLISTER) raised LEVI FOWLER DAVIS. Facts: LEVI FOWLER DAVIS married NANCY GERMAN (JARMAN, GARMAN) in Monroe County Mississippi in 1841. MARTHA O. FOWLER has a headstone in the Wesley Chaple Methodist church cemetery in Lauderdale Co. Alabama, which says: MARTHA O. FOWLER, wife of LEVI FOWLER and gives her birthdate as 6 May 1769 and her death date 11 July 1841. There is no headstone for LEVI FOWLER in this cemetery. If anyone can offer additional information, it would be appreciated. Bob Davis 13117A NW 8th Ave. Vancouver, WA. 98685 (360) 574-1624
Good Evening Everyone, Can someone out there help this person? I don't have anything that really relates to WWI. If you do know the answer, please be sure to write to the person below, as well as the list. Thanks, Pat - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Date: Tue, 31 Aug 1999 11:51:20 -0400 From: Royce Whittington <wwhittin@surfsouth.com> Could someone tell me where I can find information on a Military Unit for 1917-1918? I am looking for the history on Co. K, 2nd. Al. I don't know if this is Army or National Guard Unit. Thank you for any assistance.
Does anyone know the hours of Lauderdale County's courthouse in Lauderdale?? If so I'd appreciate hearing from you later today as I plan to visit that area tomorrow morning. Thx, Gay Parrish
Hi Everyone, I have access to a copy of the 1790 Census for South Carolina and will do lookups as time permits. Nancy Lovelace Gooch

Ms. Dupree certainly wasn't very expansive on the subject was she? Her answer still leaves one wondering though. I have seen a hard-copy index of the 1820 AL Census which lists individuals as living in Lauderdale county. Apparently, some kind of Census was taken but the data lost. What a bummer!! I regularly visit the Arkansas History Commission which has a copy of this index. So, if anyone needs a look-up just let me know. All I will be able to do is confirm whether or not an individual is listed as the index contains no township or page info. Regards, Gary Matthews "Pat M. Do these people look familiar to anyone... I am trying to find the name of my Unknown Long relative. I know he was born in Tennessee, but I do not know where. I am hoping that maybe by posting his children someone will recognize him. I have not be able to locate him on a census. He married around 1875 (but not in Lauderdale) , and died before the 1900 census (his family is on the 1900 census). If anyone has seen him on a census 1880 in Lauderdale or in some of the surrounding Tennessee counties, please let me know. He his buried by his wife Sarah E. in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.. Hello List I am a new subscriber ... looking for data regarding a Robert WILLIAMS who died in Jan 1971 at Florence, Lauderdale Co., AL. I was wondering if someone would be willing to do an obituary lookup for me? The Robert WILLIAMS I am looking for was the son of Sydney Stanton & Mandy (ESSLINGER) WILLIAMS. I am the granddaughter of his brother, Willie Lee, who went to Texas in the 1920's. Thank you, Lisa Williams San Marcos, TX.
Can anyone help this lady? Please reply to the addy below. Troy -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Cross family Date: Sat, 28 Aug 1999 19:34:43 -0400 From: "Dudley Hinds" <dhindsh@mindspring.com> To: <mccarley@airnet.net> I am looking for a W. Cross, born about 1850 in Lauderdale, Colbert, or Franklin counties. In the late1880s, he was an Episcopal rector in Greenville, Mississippi. His father was probably Dr. William Cross, a physician who settled in Lauderdale County in 1840s. Dr. William Cross had a granddaughter named Elizabeth Cross Brotherton, of Cherokee. In a letter that she wrote in 1967, she said that her brothers was writing a history of the Cross family, so I am also searching for such that history. Do you know where a copy might be? Thank you.
Thank you all for the help with my McDonald family. You are all a group of really nice people!! Brenda walt123@seark.net

I am searching for the parents of William (Bill) McDonald born 1870, who married Francis C. Jeams (or JAMES) on July 26, 1888. in Lauderdale County, AL. Their children were Lucille McDonald born 1892 in Lauderdale County, and Verda Cleveland McDonald born 1893 in Lauderdale County. Frances Jeams or James parents were Joseph JAMES and Martha Vandiver. There is a will for Joe James in the Courthouse in Florence, but when we were there a couple of years ago, they could not locate it. Does anyone have any information on these people? I am told the historian for Lauderdale County is a Mr. McDonald. Does anyone know how I can reach him? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Brenda Robertson walt123@seark.net
Does anyone know if there are any naturalization records recorded at the courthouse in Florence? Perhaps someone has compiled them and they are in the genealogy room at the library. Would there be a compiled list for the whole state of Alabama? Judy
