For the folks that had expressed interest in Killen/Masonville area. The area in and around Killen, Alabama was once know as Masonville, Alabama and had a Post office for about 40 years. A Post office was created September 28, 1826 with Joseph Mason as the first postmaster. The post office was apparently located in Mason's house which was located at the Highway 72 and the Lexington Road (Co Rd 71) in Killen. The Postmasters that followed Mason were James Coalter on March 2, 1835, John Luke Harrison on November 8, 1839, and Samuel W. Barr on September 1, 1855. The post office remained open until October 6, 1866 when the mailing address was changed to Centre Star. Masonville appeared on a list of Confederate States Post Offices but there are no examples of letters know to have been mailed from there during the Civil War. In 1849 Masonville was one of the Voting places in the county of Lauderdale and 179 people voted in the Masonville beat that year. -- Troy McCarley Alabama Unknown CC AlGenweb Unknown County Query Page http://www.rootsweb.com/~alunknow/index.html McCarley Family Association http://www.airnet.net/mccarley/index.html McCarley Family Assoc. http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/McCarley Lauderdale County Alabama Mailing List:<mailto:ALLAUDER-L-request@rootsweb.com> Slaton Family Mailing List:<mailto:SLATON-L-request@rootsweb.com> surnames: McCarley, Slaton,Chandler,White,Grisham,Snoddy
Good Morning Everyone, All of the queries and surname listings I've received have been posted thru midnight last night. In addition, there are two SPRINGER deeds from Peggy Joice Horton. One of these is a 'picture' of a land certificate. THANKS! Peggy. I've connected the Lauderdale page to the Lauderdale County, AL GenConnect boards. I'll be making a separate page for these sometime this week. If you have a problem using them, I'm the administrator for the boards and my addy is on each board, so just e-mail me. I don't promise answers, but I will try. If any of you have sent me something that is not on the web site, let me know. Thanks, Pat
Greetings, I have just spent the afternoon at the Pettus Museum, located at Killen, Alabama and just had to tell ya'll about it. Ronald Pettus, our local historian has put together one of the most impressive displays of our local history I've seen. Complete with photographs and signed documents from Presidents to Native American. Wagons from the Florence Wagon Works, Civil War relics plus lots of local history. He has also asked me to check with everyone to see if they may have a post mark letter from the Masonville post office, before it would have been Killen? At any rate if you would like a little history of Killen and the surrounding area you must check it out. Can anyone add any information to this puzzle? Especially the associated families. Pat McDonald mmcdonald3@houston.rr.com (new email addy) ============= 4 October 1928, Lauderdale Co. AL, S. E. [Stephen E.] McDonald petitioned the court to settle the estate of BERRY MCDONALD, deceased. He says the widow is Lizzy McDonald [Judith Elizabeth RICHARDSON] who died 17 Nov 1927, they had no children, and the heirs of the estate are his brothers and sisters, or their descendants. He lists the names of the siblings as: THOMAS MCDONALD, JOHN MCDONALD, LAIB MCDONALD, JAMES MCDONALD and HANNAH ROSS. That all of these bros and the sister have long since died. That all the brothers, Thomas McDonald, John McDonald, Laib McDonald and James McDonald left this County and State before the Civil War and petitioner is informed they died many years ago, each leaving a family of children...diligent effort to locate the children of ...dec'd brothers...no one can furnish any information. (He does have some of the descendants of Hannah McDonald, who married WILLIAM MOSES ROSS on 03 Nov 1840 in Lauderdale.) [It is my suspicion that William Moses Ross was a brother to Emily Ross, first wife of Berry McDonald, and they were probably the children of MOSES ROSS, wife Levina/Lana/Adlina, who is shown in the 1840 Lauderdale census, but not found after that.] I have found some early McDonald marriages n Lauderdale that MIGHT be the brothers Thomas MCDONALD - none JOHN MCDONALD m Malinda CHISOLM 05 Jan 1830 LAIB MCDONALD m Elizabeth HERALDSON 6 Dec 1842 JAMES MCDONALD m Mary J. COLLINS 6 Feb 1830 The above couples don’t seem to be listed in the 1830 Lauderdale census, nor the 1840. Berry MCDONALD (1823-1887) m1 Emily ROSS 18 Feb 1841 M2 Judith Elizabeth RICHARDSON, abt 1878. She was dau of Alsey Helton Richardson and Jane E. Hill Hannah MCDONALD (ca 1815) m William ROSS 3 Nov 1840 Stephen E. McDonald, the administrator of the Berry McDonald estate, was not a descendant of this family, but in his papers he says “being a relative of the deceased……..” Any teeny, tiny clues about any of these folks would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know if there is a list of Lauderdale Co. men who served in the Mexican War? Judy
Greetings, I have for many years been researching my gr gr grandfather NATHAN DAVIS (1786 - ?) who's son was named LEVI FOWLER DAVIS (1819 - 1888) NATHAN DAVIS was first found by this researcher in LAUDERDALE COUNTY ALABAMA. NATHAN DAVIS was in Lauderdale Co. from about 1821 until about 1842, when he moved to DESOTO COUNTY, MS. Family legend has NATHAN DAVIS coming from South Carolina, but I have never been able to locate the place of his birth nor who his parents were. I offer the following information in hopes of finding additional information about NATHAN DAVIS These are assumptions only: Nathan was first married to EMILY FOWLER in South Carolina. EMILY FOWLER was the child of MARTHA O. FOWLER and LEVI FOWLER. MARTHA O> FOWLER came to Lauderdale County Alabama with her daughter and her son-in-law NATHAN. EMILY FOWLER DAVIS died about 1819 at the birth or complications from the birth of her son LEVI FOWLER DAVIS. Her mother MARTHA FOWLER and Nathan's 2nd wife EMILY McLUSTER (McALLISTER) raised LEVI FOWLER DAVIS. Facts: LEVI FOWLER DAVIS married NANCY GERMAN (JARMAN, GARMAN) in Monroe County Mississippi in 1841. MARTHA O. FOWLER has a headstone in the Wesley Chaple Methodist church cemetery in Lauderdale Co. Alabama, which says: MARTHA O. FOWLER, wife of LEVI FOWLER and gives her birthdate as 6 May 1769 and her death date 11 July 1841. There is no headstone for LEVI FOWLER in this cemetery. If anyone can offer additional information, it would be appreciated. Bob Davis 13117A NW 8th Ave. Vancouver, WA. 98685 (360) 574-1624
Thanks Malcolm, and Happy New Year! What a nice beginning for 2000: some new exciting clues to keep my search alive! Thanks! Marylou
Hi Lee, Tried sending this to you personally but it wouldn't go through.Hope you have a Happy New Year with no glitches to your computor. Seems kinda ironic that you post this infor on Sizemore. I don't have any infor on the Sizemore's other than, in some of my notes that have been sent to me about my Futrell's, I have this: W.D.Futrell married Laura Sizemore with a notation about a J.C. Futrell and the date 31 March 1900. My grandmother (Texanna Futrell and her family were in Lauderdale Cty., Ala.) Maybe by chance my Futrell's and your Sizemore relate. My ggrandfather was A.J. Futrell md. to Mary Ann Scitzs. Have no dates. And I can yet find parents for A.J. Futrell. A.J. Futrell was born(according to Pension records) in Franklin Cty., Ala. He was born: 1825-1828(a question on which date) I would love to hear if you come up with anything on the Sizemore's. Best Wishes for the coming New Year

I am researching the DALZELL family of Kentucky, Illinois, Alabama, California, and probably other locations not yet discovered. I have located a reference to John T. DALZELL, born 1864 in Lauderdale County, according to LDS data, and would like to contact anyone who has more information on this person, or on the DALZELL surname. Thanks in advance, Marylou Huntsville, AL (Researching DALZELL, WITT, HESSEK, REZNY/RESNY)
I am interested in contacting any DEAREN or SIZEMORE researchers in the Lauderdale County, AL area. I would also appreciate it if anyone has access to a 1880 or 1900 Lauderdale County, AL Census if they would do a lookup for me on any DEAREN or SIZEMORE families listed. I believe that they lived in the Waterloo area and possibly moved back and forth to District 8 of Hardin County, TN. This is the family of my daughter in law and we are having great difficulty locating information about her great grandparents. Their names were Andrew SIZEMORE and Madgie Dearen SIZEMORE. I would like very much to learn the names of their parents and siblings. Any information on these families will be appreciated. I look forward to hearing from some of you. Thanks!
